According to a representative from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, starting last night (February 7th), contractors have erected barricades around the entire intersection and surrounding infrastructure, and the area is now basically ready for traffic flow.

Accordingly, from February 8th, the entire road section at the intersection will be barricaded 24/7 for the duration of the underpass construction, which is expected to last 240 days. The Department of Transportation prohibits all vehicles from crossing Nguyen Van Linh Street from Nguyen Huu Tho Street at the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection. Vehicles will use an alternative route.

To implement the new traffic plan, the Traffic Management Board (the project's investor) has constructed new facilities such as U-turn lanes, installed additional traffic lights, painted roads, and also installed numerous directional signs to guide people.

Specifically, trucks traveling from District 7 to Nha Be District can follow Nguyen Huu Tho Street - turn right onto Nguyen Van Linh Street (2 lanes for cars) - make a U-turn before Tu Dinh Bridge or before the toll station - Nguyen Van Linh Street - turn right onto Nguyen Huu Tho Street.

Motorcycles and cars can follow this route: Nguyen Huu Tho Street - turn right onto Nguyen Van Linh Street (2 mixed lanes) - make a U-turn on the service road under Ong Lon Bridge - Nguyen Van Linh Street - turn right onto Nguyen Huu Tho Street.

Previously, the Department of Transportation planned to adjust the traffic flow according to the new plan starting from February 3rd, with a four-day trial period. If traffic conditions were stable, the intersection would be barricaded on February 7th (the 28th day of the Lunar New Year) to begin official construction during the Lunar New Year holiday. However, after inspection, the relevant units confirmed that all necessary conditions were met, so the intersection could be closed as early as the 29th day of the Lunar New Year.

The entire intersection has been barricaded.

"The volume of traffic in this area is very high. Closing the intersection will certainly cause disruption, making travel more difficult and time-consuming for people. However, the open tunnel construction is taking place right in the middle of the intersection, so there is no other option. The project is being implemented during the Tet holiday to reduce traffic congestion and give people time to access information about the intersection closure. The construction unit is working diligently throughout the Tet holiday to accelerate progress and bring the project to completion," a representative from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport informed.

Construction on the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection, with a total investment of 830 billion VND, commenced in April 2020 and was expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2023, but has been delayed due to land acquisition difficulties. According to the design, the project will include a central roundabout (60m in diameter) and two underpasses along with connecting ramps on Nguyen Van Linh Street. The two underpasses on Nguyen Van Linh Street will run underground through the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection, spanning approximately 480m (including access roads at both ends of the tunnels and the enclosed tunnel section).
