As children enter their summer vacation, youth organizations at all levels actively get involved, promoting activities to care for and build a safe, healthy, and enriching living environment, helping children to have fun and develop life skills.
Children perform at the opening ceremony of the 2023 summer activities program of the Provincial Children's Cultural Center.
With an unstable job, three young children, and a very difficult financial situation , Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai, from Nguyen Hue village, Vu Dong commune (Thai Binh city), was deeply moved by the attention she received from youth unions at all levels. She said: "I rarely buy gifts for my children, so this year, receiving gifts from the youth union on International Children's Day made them very happy; they were also excitedly asking about the summer activities I would be taking them to."
Nguyen Thi Hai Yen, Mai's daughter, excitedly said: "I heard the young people say that we can go to free swimming lessons and learn to dance and sing during the summer. I will bring my two younger siblings to watch them practice."
The gift for Mai and other children in the province on International Children's Day marks the beginning of a series of activities organized by youth organizations at all levels during this summer. To contribute to a joyful summer for children and students, local youth organizations are actively coordinating with educational institutions and local authorities to effectively receive, manage, and organize summer activities for children in their communities. Previously, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee directed district and city youth unions throughout the province to organize summer activities suitable to their specific conditions and circumstances, including activities celebrating International Children's Day on June 1st and in response to the 2023 Action Month for Children.
This summer, the Provincial Youth Union and the Provincial Children's Council have set a target of organizing 50 free swimming lessons for children throughout the province.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Secretary of the Hung Ha District Youth Union and Chairman of the District Children's Council, said: This summer, especially during the month of action for children, with the theme "Joining hands to minimize harm to children," the district's Youth Union and Children's Council branches are focusing on organizing activities to promote children's right to participation. Through these activities, children and students can express their voices, needs, and aspirations regarding issues that concern them. Along with that, they are organizing activities to support children and teenagers, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Furthermore, they are focusing on organizing activities to support students and children in developing skills, especially practical social skills, and organizing physical training for them.
The summer vacation for students is also an opportunity to implement a series of activities for the summer youth volunteer campaign. Therefore, local youth union and team organizations at all levels organize activities such as: reviewing academics, giving gifts and scholarships, organizing medical check-ups, building playgrounds for children, etc.
Ms. Dinh Thi Hoan, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and President of the Provincial Children's Council, said: In the plan to organize summer activities for children in 2023, the Provincial Youth Union and the Children's Council have set targets to support at least 6,900 disadvantaged children; organize at least 2 summer camps and skills camps for children; 80 talent development classes, 50 free swimming lessons for children; mobilize and donate 3 mobile and fixed swimming pools; build and donate 1 Red Scarf House for disadvantaged children...
Organizing summer activities at the local level not only contributes to creating a healthy playground for children but also helps families manage and guide them towards meaningful and appropriate activities. The proactive and creative approach of youth organizations at all levels in organizing summer care, management, and education activities will help children have a beneficial, enjoyable, and safe vacation.
