(PLVN) - In recent days, the prolonged heat has caused the Bac Lieu Bird Garden Species and Habitat Conservation Area (Nha Mat ward, Bac Lieu city) to face the risk of level IV forest fires - dangerous level.

In order to proactively and effectively implement forest fire prevention and fighting measures, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bac Lieu province has directed the Coastal Special-Use Forest Management Board to closely coordinate with relevant units to strengthen inspection and patrol work, proactively prevent fires, and prepare fire-fighting equipment to respond effectively according to the motto "Four on-site".

Mr. Le Chi Linh - Deputy Director of the Management Board of Bac Lieu Coastal Protection Special-Use Forests said: "In recent days, the weather has been unusual, from cool to hot and windy, the water in the core canals of the Bac Lieu Bird Garden Special-Use Forest is gradually decreasing, the layers of vegetation under the forest canopy are starting to dry up, very easy to catch fire, so the risk of forest fires is quite high.

The Management Board of Bac Lieu Coastal Protection Special-Use Forests has stepped up propaganda, patrolling, inspection, and information gathering and developments in the forest area to take measures to prevent violations of laws on forest fire prevention and fighting.

Along with that, the Management Board builds and implements a plan to coordinate with the Inter-District Forest Protection Department, the Mobile Forest Protection Team and the Forest Fire Prevention and Control Team in propaganda work on forest fire prevention and fighting. At the same time, coordinate with the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police to train and guide on fire prevention and fighting when a fire occurs.

Authorities check and operate specialized fire fighting equipment... in a state of readiness in case of fire.

Currently, Bac Lieu Bird Garden has equipped 4 specialized fire fighting machines, 4 fire fighting machine transport carts, forest fire level forecasting machine, forest fire level forecasting sign, fire prevention channel nearly 450 meters long, 12 meters wide. Fire fighting equipment and tools are always ready when a fire occurs.

The Bac Lieu Coastal Protection Special-Use Forest Management Board has just coordinated with the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police Department , Bac Lieu Provincial Police, Nha Mat Ward People's Committee (Bac Lieu City), Vinh Hau A Commune ( Hoa Binh District)... to simultaneously conduct a forest fire prevention and fighting plan exercise in 2025.

A hypothetical situation was set up to practice a forest fire prevention plan, tourists smoked and threw cigarette butts into a pile of dry leaves causing a fire. The fire grew large and quickly spread, with the risk of spreading to neighboring lots...

The forest fire prevention team of the Bac Lieu Coastal Protection Forest Management Board quickly shouted the fire alarm, used gongs and loudspeakers to inform all workers, employees and tourists about the situation and requested emergency evacuation. At the same time, the Management Board mobilized on-site forces and means to participate in fire fighting; and informed the professional fire fighting force.

Upon receiving the news, the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Department of Bac Lieu Province mobilized forces and sent 2 vehicles to participate in fire fighting, extinguishing the fire in the fastest time, ensuring safety.

At the same time, instruct officers, employees, and people to clearly understand the features and effects of fire-fighting equipment equipped on-site, ready to fight fires promptly and effectively when a fire occurs. Thereby, enhancing the ability to coordinate firefighting between forces; training forest fire fighting techniques and tactics for officers, soldiers, workers, and command and control work.

Bac Lieu Bird Garden Species and Habitat Conservation Area is located in Kinh Te Hamlet, Nha Mat Ward (Bac Lieu City, Bac Lieu Province), with an area of ​​380 hectares including the core zone and buffer zone. There are over 100 species of birds; 8 species of frogs and toads; 21 species of reptiles; 96 species of freshwater and brackish water fish; 16 species of mammals. Among these, there are many species of animals listed in the Vietnam and world red lists such as: storks, ibises, herons, egrets, cormorants, teals, sesbania, and senna.... At the same time, the Conservation Area also records more than 100 species of plants.

Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary Species and Habitat Conservation Area was recognized as a Nature Reserve in 1986. In 2014, it was recognized as one of the National Nature Reserves. In particular, this is the only Species and Habitat Conservation Area in the Mekong Delta located right in the city, very suitable for both exploiting ecotourism and conserving biodiversity.
