Accordingly, the City's Food Safety Steering Committee is chaired by the Chairman of the City People's Committee, Tran Sy Thanh. Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, Vu Thu Ha, serves as the Standing Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee; and Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, Nguyen Manh Quyen, serves as the Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee consists of 24 members, including leaders from relevant departments, agencies, and units of the city.
The Steering Committee is tasked with developing and implementing programs and plans on food safety; researching and advising the City People's Committee on policies, mechanisms, and solutions for state management of food safety; and advising the City People's Committee on directing and coordinating activities among departments, agencies, organizations, districts, towns, and related agencies and organizations in inter-sectoral handling to ensure food safety. In cases where food safety issues become complex and affect public health on a large scale, the Steering Committee will promptly recommend and advise the City People's Committee on appropriate measures.
In addition, the Steering Committee is responsible for advising the City People's Committee to supervise and inspect the implementation of food safety work by departments and agencies; and the People's Committees - Food Safety Steering Committees of districts, counties, and towns in the city.
The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City requests that departments, agencies, the People's Committees of districts, towns, and related units, and organizations provide information and documents to support the implementation of the Steering Committee's tasks; submit monthly, quarterly, six-monthly, nine-monthly, and annual reports on the Steering Committee's activities; and submit ad hoc reports as requested by the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
Furthermore, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City assigns the Department of Health (the Standing Agency of the Steering Committee) the responsibility of ensuring the operational conditions of the Steering Committee, using the Department of Health's organizational structure to carry out the tasks of the Standing Agency. Simultaneously, it is responsible for inviting relevant departments, agencies, and organizations; the People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities; and representatives of related agencies and organizations to attend meetings and working sessions of the Steering Committee; and for compiling and reporting monthly, quarterly, six-monthly, nine-monthly, annual, and ad hoc reports as requested by the Steering Committee.
