According to Tri Nam Group, the necessity of agricultural extension activities is to meet the requirements of agricultural modernization, improve productivity and quality; create conditions for farmers to access new information and technologies; enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market; and contribute to socio -economic development and improve the lives of rural people.
According to a report by the Center for Digital Transformation and Agricultural Statistics, digital transformation in agriculture worldwide is progressing rapidly thanks to the widespread application of advanced technologies to improve production efficiency and ensure sustainable development. In Vietnam, the application of high technology in agriculture, especially in pig farming, is increasingly being promoted to meet the demand for safe and high-quality food. The smart pig farming model not only helps improve efficiency but also plays a crucial role in the digital transformation of agriculture.
In Hai Phong, the development of platforms and systems has led to the effective implementation and operation of national database systems as well as digital technology platforms such as: data management on crop cultivation and plant protection; databases on animal feed and livestock production facilities; online animal disease information system; Vnfishbase system for monitoring and updating information and data on fishing vessels; disaster monitoring system, automatic water level measurement stations, etc. Regarding data development, the task of digital transformation in creating and managing databases serving biodiversity surveys and monitoring in the Cat Ba Biosphere Reserve has been completed according to the set roadmap and plan: creating a biodiversity database for 800 species of plants and animals in the Cat Ba Archipelago Biosphere Reserve; and applying rapid identification for 30 endangered and rare species.
According to Mr. Le Quoc Thanh, Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center, the Center has begun developing a digital transformation strategy throughout its entire system. The digital transformation strategy for agricultural extension will be based on three pillars: digital communication; digital training and education; and digital management and services. To develop digital transformation in agricultural extension, extension officers need to identify their current position, fully understand the changes, and form new approaches that align with current trends. The National Agricultural Extension Center will develop common standards for synchronized implementation by localities and will submit to the Ministry a proposal for the development of a digital agricultural extension project. The National Agricultural Extension Center is committed to directly guiding the application of technology in agricultural extension work, aiming for synchronized digital transformation from the central to local levels.
Overview of the conference
At the workshop, representatives from several management agencies, research institutions, experts, and businesses in the agricultural sector, as well as provincial and city Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, exchanged information on digital transformation. Reports focused on several topics, including the national digital transformation strategy for agricultural extension; the farmer network platform as a sustainable economic development solution for cooperatives; the Globalcheck technology field – a comprehensive digital transformation solution for smart rice production; high-tech agriculture – an overview of smart pig farms; and the application of digital transformation in agricultural extension activities in provinces such as Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Vinh Phuc, Hoa Binh, and Nghe An.
In addition, delegates exchanged experiences and discussed limitations in developing digital transformation in agriculture in general and agricultural extension in particular. Experts answered questions related to the application of digital transformation in agricultural production and agricultural extension activities.
