The Danang Dragons and Ho Chi Minh City Wings are sharing the last two positions in the 2023 VBA standings, so they are striving for a victory when facing each other.
The Danang Dragons players showed clear determination by pushing forward to score the first point, but very quickly the momentum shifted back to the Ho Chi Minh City Wings thanks to the brilliance of the 2.11m tall foreign player Amir Williams.
Danang Dragons (in orange jerseys) lost to Ho Chi Minh City Wings.
Amir Williams' consistency and effectiveness became a source of morale for his teammates, especially Jeremy Smith, who had plenty of space to score. Alongside the well-functioning offense, the Ho Chi Minh City Wings' guards also actively tracked and minimized the impact of the Danang Dragons' number one shooter, Jermaine Marrow.
Amir Williams (25) shone brightly, bringing victory to Ho Chi Minh City Wings Club.
Unable to withstand the opponent's onslaught and with a weak offense, the Danang Dragons trailed throughout all four quarters, at one point by as much as 27 points. William Tran was substituted in to try and close the gap for the Danang Dragons, but the Vietnamese-born shooter only made one basket out of seven attempts. His poor performance after 15 minutes on the court sealed the fate of the Danang Dragons' efforts. The team from the Han River lost 78-91 to the Ho Chi Minh City Wings, suffering their fifth consecutive defeat in the 2023 VBA season.
Nguyen Anh Kiet (in orange jersey) played impressively but couldn't help the Danang Dragons secure their first victory.
With 29 points and 24 catches, center Amir Williams of Ho Chi Minh City Wings won the Player of the Match award. Ho Chi Minh City Wings' domestic player Tran Van Trung also stood out with 13 points. On the Danang Dragons' side, Nguyen Anh Kiet was the best player with 16 points and 4 assists.
