Opportunities and challenges

Tomorrow morning (December 25th), in Hanoi , the Industry and Trade Newspaper will organize a seminar titled "Carbon Market: Opportunities and Challenges".

To implement policies on green and sustainable economic development, as well as the national strategy on climate change for the period up to 2050 as stipulated in Decision No. 896/QD-TTg dated July 26, 2022, of the Prime Minister, aiming to proactively and effectively adapt, reduce vulnerability, losses, and damages caused by climate change; and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to a net emission target of "zero" by 2050, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued the "Action Plan for Responding to Climate Change and Green Growth in the Industry and Trade Sector for the period up to 2030, with a vision to 2050" with many specific objectives.

The Industry and Trade Newspaper organized a seminar titled 'Carbon Market: Opportunities and Challenges'.

To achieve the objectives outlined in the strategy and plan, raising awareness about emissions, as well as implementing a market for trading greenhouse gas emission reduction credits (carbon market) in Vietnam, is a crucial task for the industry and many businesses within the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

With the aim of conveying the message about economic transformation towards a green, circular, and low-carbon economy; and at the same time providing updated information on the current status, challenges, and solutions for effectively implementing the carbon market in Vietnam, the Industry and Trade Newspaper is organizing the seminar " Carbon Market: Opportunities and Challenges " with the participation of the following guests:

- Mr. Hoang Van Tam - Head of the Climate Change Group, Energy Saving and Sustainable Development Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade.

- Mr. Nguyen Sy Linh - Head of the Climate Change and Global Issues Department - Institute of Strategy, Policy and Resources and Environment - Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen The Chinh - Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Environmental Economics.

- Ms. Dang Hong Hanh - Team Leader, expert on climate change policy.

- Mr. Vu Manh Thang - Energy Department, Truong Thanh Vietnam Group.

- Ms. Phan Thi Thu Thuy - Representative of the Environmental Informatics Consulting Company - TKV.

The workshop will consist of two sessions. Session 1 : Presentation - Current status of the carbon market, advantages for industrial enterprises, and initial implementation results. Session 2 : Discussion - Challenges in achieving carbon emission reduction targets in industrial production and how to overcome these challenges.
