On the morning of May 16, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology held the Tran Dai Nghia Award Ceremony 2025, honoring two outstanding scientific works.
After an objective and serious evaluation process, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology decided to award the Tran Dai Nghia Prize to two outstanding works, representing fields of high topicality and wide applicability:
Cliff water storage hanging lake technology

The project was carried out by Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Cao Minh (Institute of Earth Sciences); Dr. Vu Van Bang (Institute of Water and Environmental Technology, Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations), Engineer Nguyen Chi Ton (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ha Giang province), aiming to solve the problem of prolonged water shortage for daily life and cultivation in highland areas.
Accordingly, the project "Hanging lake technology for collecting water from cliffs" uses technology to exploit natural sloping terrain. The hanging lake allows collecting and storing rainwater in the wet season, providing a stable water source in the dry season.
The solution has reasonable cost, suitable for harsh conditions in rocky mountains, contributing to stabilizing life, developing sustainable agriculture and protecting the livelihoods of ethnic minorities.
Research, development and production of medium voltage switchboards
The project was carried out by a group of engineers Pham Dinh Thang, Doan Ky Ba and Bui Van Dam (Asia Industrial Engineering Joint Stock Company - ACIT), aiming to solve the urgent need for electrical equipment in the context of strong industrialization, modernization and digital transformation.

The project not only masters domestic production technology but also contributes to reducing investment costs, reducing dependence on imported sources and promoting localization of electrical equipment.
This is an important step in modernizing the electricity industry, while enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises in the fields of high technology and industrial infrastructure.
Speaking at the 2025 Tran Dai Nghia Award Ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung affirmed the central role of science, technology and innovation in the new economic development model, emphasized in Resolution 57 of the Politburo and will continue to be affirmed at the 14th National Party Congress.
"The Tran Dai Nghia Award is a worthy recognition of the spirit of dedication of scientists, researchers, and innovators who have been tirelessly researching and quietly overcoming countless difficulties to bring values to serve the economic, social, defense, and security development of the Fatherland," the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed.
The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized: The Tran Dai Nghia Award is a worthy recognition for the silent dedication of scientists who have overcome many challenges to create value for the country's development.

This is not only a scientific title but also a source of inspiration for the young generation, demonstrating the spirit of service and transforming knowledge into practical products.
He proposed that the Research Award Council increase the award frequency from once every 3 years to once every 1 year, expand the field and subjects to promptly honor scientific contributions to the country.
The Tran Dai Nghia Award is a national science award, held every three years, to recognize and honor scientists with outstanding works in the fields of natural science and technology.
Not only stopping at academic value, the awarded works must have high applicability, making practical contributions to socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security.
The award is selected in 9 fields of natural sciences and technology, including: mathematics, mechanics, information and computer science, physics, chemistry, life sciences, earth sciences, marine sciences, environmental sciences and energy.
