Flood control project worth over 20 billion VND 'fails'

TPO - The flood control project at Trang Dai intersection (Trang Dai ward, Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province) received over 20 billion VND in investment, but it still floods every time it rains.

The heavy rain on the afternoon of May 31st caused continued flooding on many roads in Bien Hoa City. Notably, the "flood hotspot" at Trang Dai intersection (Dong Khoi - Bui Trong Nghia junction), where Bien Hoa City had just completed a flood control project, still failed to resolve the flooding situation.

Heavy rain lasting over an hour caused severe flooding at the Trang Dai intersection, making traffic difficult and causing congestion. Many houses along Dong Khoi Street were also flooded.

Low-clearance vehicles are hesitant to cross the flooded area.

Only when locals clear the trash from the drains do the water drain faster. Residents believe that, based on the first few rains of the season, flooding still occurs even after the drainage system is in place; it's just that the water drains more quickly than before.

Previously, to address flooding issues in Bien Hoa City, in 2023, the Bien Hoa City People's Committee implemented a drainage project in the Trang Dai intersection area.

Accordingly, the project includes the construction of two concrete box culverts, measuring 2m x 2m, along both sides of Dong Khoi Street, each nearly 320m long. Additionally, nearly 210m of circular concrete pipes, 1.5m in diameter, will be installed to drain water into the San Mau stream.

Residents are clearing trash from the drainage outlets.

The total investment for the project is over 23 billion VND. The construction is scheduled for completion in early 2024.
