Flood prevention project worth over 20 billion VND 'failed'

TPO - The flood prevention project at Trang Dai intersection (Trang Dai ward, Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai ) cost more than 20 billion VND, but it floods every time it rains.

The heavy rain on the afternoon of May 31 caused many roads in Bien Hoa City to continue to be flooded. Notably, the "flood center" at Trang Dai intersection (Dong Khoi - Bui Trong Nghia intersection) where Bien Hoa City has just completed the construction of a flood control project but still cannot solve the flooding situation.

The heavy rain for more than an hour caused water to flow to Trang Dai intersection, causing deep flooding, making traffic difficult and congested. Many houses along Dong Khoi Street had water entering their houses.

Only when the locals cleaned the garbage from the drains did the water drain faster. The locals said that the first few rains of the season showed that after the drainage works were built, flooding still occurred, but the water drained faster than before.

Previously, to handle flooded areas in Bien Hoa City, in 2023, Bien Hoa City People's Committee implemented a drainage project in the Trang Dai intersection area.

Accordingly, the project will construct items including 2 concrete box culverts measuring 2mx2m along both sides of Dong Khoi Street with a length of nearly 320m on each side. At the same time, nearly 210m of round concrete culverts with a diameter of 1.5m will be installed to drain water into San Mau stream.

The total investment cost of the project is more than 23 billion VND. The project will be completed in early 2024.
