Speeding up in the early days of the year

In mid-January 2025 – a time close to the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake – the construction site of the North-South Expressway (Eastern section, phase 2021-2025) between Can Tho and Ca Mau (Can Tho-Ca Mau Expressway) remained as bustling as ever.

The first meters of asphalt have been laid at the project.

At the construction site, on the Can Tho – Hau Giang section, nearly 900 engineers, workers, and mechanics are still working diligently. 73 construction teams working on bridges, main routes, and connecting routes are still operating.

Colonel Tran Hai Bac, Director of the Truong Son Nam Project Management Board (Truong Son Construction Corporation), said that the unit is responsible for constructing 21km of road and 10 bridges in the project. To date, the value of construction output has reached 65.80%.

In January 2025, the contractor aims to complete the embankment surcharge for the entire main route; and complete the remaining bridge decks and culverts.

The contractors are striving to complete the loading of the entire main line by January 2025.

At the same time, in March 2025, the load will be removed in locations that meet the requirements, and construction of the road surface structure will begin.

"To ensure the completion of items according to the approved construction plan, the contractor organized construction work throughout the Lunar New Year holiday of the Year of the Snake (2015)."

During this period, we mobilized more than 60 workers and engineers, organized into 7 teams, focusing on constructing the remaining section of the route and three major bridges along the route: the National Highway 61 overpass, the Nang Mau bridge, and the Rung Tram bridge.

"We are determined to complete the project in 2025 as directed by the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport ," Colonel Bac shared.

By March 2025, Truong Son will have completed the entire bridge deck of all bridges under its responsibility.

The construction site is constantly busy.

Mr. Tran Van Thi, Director of the My Thuan Project Management Board, said that to ensure the project is completed in 2025 as directed by the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport, from the beginning of 2025, the Board has requested contractors to focus on increasing equipment and personnel, and developing construction plans to compensate for delays in the remaining items.

At the same time, proactively implement all solutions and expedite the mobilization of sand resources to the construction site to complete the loading of the entire main route by January 2025.

In addition, the contractors revised the detailed construction plan. This included creating loading schedules, calculating unloading times, and identifying critical path timelines. This forms the basis for implementing the construction of the road surface and asphalt paving, ensuring the completion of the main route in 2025.

"Every day, the My Thuan Project Management Board urges contractors and supervisory consultants to closely monitor construction progress, focusing on mobilizing finances, equipment, and personnel to work overtime and extra shifts to compensate for delays, accelerate progress on the construction site, and avoid negligence or complacency."

"At the same time, the Board also requested that contractors plan to continue construction throughout the Lunar New Year holiday," the Director of the My Thuan Project Management Board added.

The Can Tho – Ca Mau expressway is over 110km long, with a total investment of over 27,500 billion VND. Construction began in January 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2025.

This section of the expressway consists of two component projects: the Can Tho – Hau Giang section, which is over 37km long, with a total investment of over 10,370 billion VND.

The Hau Giang – Ca Mau section of the project is over 73km long. The total investment is over 17,152 billion VND.

As of December 31, 2024, construction progress on the Can Tho – Hau Giang section reached 62% of the contract, and on the Hau Giang – Ca Mau section reached 55% of the contract.
