"A bumper crop" of tourists
Over 213,000 tourists visited Vung Tau ward for recreation, beach activities, relaxation, and pilgrimage during the Lunar New Year holiday of the Year of the Horse. This number, representing just one ward, is nearly equal to the total number of tourists visiting Vung Tau City (previously) during last year's Tet holiday. This positive development is attributed to significant investment in infrastructure, the improvement of tourism products and services, and enhanced experiences for both locals and visitors.
The Thuy Van road renovation project, with a total investment of over 1,000 billion VND, has been completed with many unique and impressive landmark structures, such as the square, Tam Thang Tower, the Whale statue, the food street, and the tunnel…
According to the leaders of Vung Tau ward, the large number of tourists visiting Vung Tau in the early days of the Year of the Horse was partly due to the extended Tet holiday, but more importantly, because the Thuy Van Park project was completed, leading to the development of a series of products and services, thereby attracting tourists. In addition to improved infrastructure, during Tet, the ward organized many activities such as: a food festival, a book street festival, a spring flower festival, and an artistic light show illuminating heritage sites… Tourism and travel agencies also organized many separate programs and events to encourage tourists to extend their stay in Vung Tau during the spring festival.
Meanwhile, in Rach Dua ward, in the early days of the year, thousands of tourists flocked to Sun World Vung Tau - Aqua Adventure water park (covering 15 hectares and equipped with the most modern technology in Asia). This is also the first water park in the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City to make its mark on the global tourism map, having been awarded two world records and two Vietnamese records. Mr. Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group , said that the expansion of Ho Chi Minh City's development space according to the multi-centered super-city model is opening up great opportunities for the coastal area. Sun World Vung Tau was built with the expectation of contributing to increasing the attractiveness of tourism in the East in particular and Ho Chi Minh City in general. The project not only provides a modern experience but also plays a pivotal role in activating a new urban tourism landscape.
Breakthrough in transportation infrastructure
In the future development of tourism in the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City, breakthroughs in transportation infrastructure will play a significant role. A prime example is the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway project, nearly 54km long with a total investment of over 17,800 billion VND, of which component 3 through the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City is basically complete. Upon completion, this route will shorten travel time from Dong Nai and the center of Ho Chi Minh City to the Vung Tau coastal area, while also reducing traffic congestion on National Highway 51. This is considered a crucial driving force in attracting tourists to the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City.
From the perspective of the management unit, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le, Deputy Head of the Accommodation Management Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, affirmed that after the merger of the three localities (Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and Binh Duong), the tourism space has expanded, attracting a large number of tourists to the eastern part of the city. In particular, by the beginning of 2026, major projects and constructions will be completed and operational; along with the system of architectural heritage, modern museums, traditional markets, street food, creative spaces, and festivals, these have become distinctive highlights that attract and retain tourists for longer periods.
In addition, the coastal road DT 994 Vung Tau - Lam Dong is being expanded and upgraded, creating a continuous coastal tourism axis connecting high-end resorts in Ho Tram, Binh Chau, Long Hai, and Phuoc Hai. This is considered a "golden route" that allows tourists to fully experience the coastal tourism of localities east of Ho Chi Minh City.
Looking further ahead, Mr. Vu Hong Thuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Vung Tau Ward, believes that tourists will continue to flock to the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City in increasing numbers, especially with the commencement of the road and sea bridge project connecting Can Gio with Vung Tau in 2026, expected to be completed after 3 years. This road and sea bridge will form a direct coastal connection axis between Ho Chi Minh City and Vung Tau, shortening travel time from the city center to just over 60 minutes. Thus, along with products and services, synchronized transportation infrastructure is the "golden key" to unlocking the breakthrough for tourism in the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City.
