According to Lieutenant Colonel Phung Quoc Minh, Commander of the Long Xuyen Ward Military Command, one of the outstanding achievements is the effective implementation of local military and national defense tasks. The Ward Military Command proactively advises the Ward Party Committee and People's Committee on the synchronized implementation of solutions to build a comprehensive national defense system linked to a solid people's security posture. Combat readiness is strictly maintained; plans for protecting the area, preventing and responding to natural disasters, and search and rescue operations are regularly reviewed and supplemented to suit the actual situation.
The ward's armed forces continue to play a core role in carrying out local defense and military tasks in accordance with the law. The recruitment and conscription of citizens into the military is conducted rigorously, ensuring transparency, democracy, and legality. By 2025, the locality aims to achieve 100% of its conscription quota, with the quality of young people enlisting improving in terms of education, health, and political qualities. Policies supporting the families of soldiers are implemented promptly, contributing to motivating young people to confidently embark on their duty to protect the Fatherland.
The development of the militia force is emphasized in both quantity and quality. Lieutenant Vu Thanh Tam, Deputy Commander of the Long Xuyen Ward Military Command, stated: “The militia force is built according to the motto ‘Strong and widespread.’ Currently, the force is organized into 13 platoots, 46 squads, 2 gun crews, and 8 teams, representing 0.5% of the population. Training focuses on innovative methods and closely follows the local situation. Annually, training results meet 100% of the requirements, with over 76% achieving good or excellent grades, ensuring absolute safety for personnel and equipment.”
National defense and security education has been implemented comprehensively and effectively. Training courses on national defense and security knowledge for officials, Party members, religious leaders, students, and other eligible individuals have all achieved 100% of their targets. This has contributed to raising awareness and responsibility among all segments of the population regarding the task of building and protecting the Fatherland in the new situation.
Along with national defense duties, the ward's armed forces actively participate in civilian affairs and social welfare through activities such as "Military-Civilian Tet," supporting the construction of bridges and roads, and caring for policy beneficiary families and households in difficult circumstances. These practical actions contribute to strengthening the solidarity between the military and the people, building an increasingly solid foundation of public support. Chairwoman of the Long Xuyen Ward People's Committee, Doan Thi Huong Ha, assessed that the achievements in the past have contributed to building a stronger national defense posture linked to a people's security posture in the area.
According to Ms. Huong, to continue building on the achievements, Long Xuyen ward will focus on thoroughly understanding and strictly implementing directives and orders on combat readiness. Along with that, it will strengthen the dissemination of laws on national defense and security; build a strong and comprehensive local armed force; and leverage the combined strength of the entire political system and the people in building a national defense system integrated with a solid people's security posture, meeting the requirements of the new situation.
