Although not much is known about Dale Tryon, she has made a name for herself within the British Royal Family through her work as a fashion designer.
King Charles once called her "the only woman who truly understood me." Dale Tryon is believed to have been one of Charles's first women – before he had other relationships with Camilla (75 years old) and Diana.

Charles became close friends with Dale when she married Baron Anthony Tryon in 1973.
The baron was once part of the Royal Family at the time, and Dale learned more about the Royal Family through his spouse.
However, she actually met Prince Charles for the first time in 1966 at a school dance in Victoria, Melbourne (Australia), where she was born and raised.
They both had a close relationship for a period of time.
But before stepping into the world of crowns, gold, and glamour, Dale made a major move to the United Kingdom from the Southern Hemisphere to build her own high-end fashion label in 1972, just one year before her wedding.
During their marriage, Dale welcomed four children but later divorced in 1997.
Her life was even documented in a 2008 Channel 4 documentary, * Prince Charles' Other Mistress * , which detailed her purposeful love for Charles and the tragedies she faced.

The film alleges that Charles and Dale's relationship developed while Charles was still dating Camilla, who married military officer Andrew Parker Bowles in 1973.
The heir to the throne – apparently enjoying his bachelor life at the time – was jumping from Dale to Camilla and back again.

When Dale had his second child – named Charles – in 1976, Queen Elizabeth's eldest son became the boy's godfather.
But when Charles married Diana in July 1981, his alleged love triangle with the two women came to an end.
Dale had a close friendship with Diana—who died in 1997—but was reportedly always at odds with Camilla.
"Camilla was the enemy. On the basis that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, Diana felt there should be some purpose in allying with Dale," royal expert Christopher Wilson said on Channel 4's special.

The documentary notes that the Tryon family denies all claims of a romantic relationship between Dale and Charles.

According to Tina Brown's 2022 book, The Palace Papers , shortly afterward, Charles issued a statement attempting to distance himself from Dale, saying that he and his former lover were merely acquaintances.
Charles even said they only talked "once or twice a year" and that he wanted to push her away, although Tina Brown wrote that Charles still "loved her honesty and openness."
Because of Dale's supposedly "unstable" mental state, Baron Tryon (who died in 2018) separated from Dale under the Mental Health Act in June 1997 and began the divorce proceedings.
There were also rumors that Dale used her relationship with Charles to promote her fashion brand in the 1970s and early 1980s.
Charles and Camilla were officially crowned on May 6, 2023.
Dale suffered from various illnesses. In 1993, she was diagnosed with uterine cancer, and subsequently battled alcohol and drug addiction.
In 1996, Dale Tryon went to a rehabilitation facility in Surrey called Farm Place after abusing painkillers, large amounts of vodka, and champagne while battling cancer.
While at the treatment center, she fell from a window and suffered serious injuries, including a fractured skull, spinal cord injury, and partial paralysis, forcing her to use a wheelchair for the last 18 months of her life.
Before his death in November 1997 from blood poisoning – more than two months after Diana's tragic death – Dale had traveled to Australia and India.
But upon returning to London, she was admitted to hospital, where she died shortly afterward – less than two months before her 50th birthday.
Dale Tryon was buried in England, and his estate, worth $1.6 million, was left to his children.
