On May 16, Nam Saigon International General Hospital said it had received and treated two students in critical condition with many injuries on their bodies.
Previously, emergency room doctors admitted two male and female students to the hospital in critical condition after being stabbed more than 20 times.
Through clinical examination of both patients, doctors discovered extremely serious, life-threatening injuries that could not delay surgical intervention.
The hospital quickly activated the red alert, mobilizing doctors from many specialties to perform life-saving surgery for the two patients.
Dr. Truong Hoai Son, who directly received two emergency cases that night, said the male student was hospitalized with injuries to his chest, abdomen, and a tear in his right forearm.
Through examination, abdominal bleeding was discovered, abdominal artery rupture, red blood spurting continuously.
Immediately after receiving the male student, a female student suspected of being involved in the incident was also taken to the emergency room.
Initial investigation determined that the female student suffered more serious injuries with more than 20 stab wounds to the abdomen, chest, shoulder and arm. Some of these stab wounds penetrated the middle lobe of the right lung, penetrating to the epigastric region and right hypochondrium.
The paraclinical results at the bedside also showed that the patient had a pneumothorax. The emergency team quickly placed a chest tube and performed resuscitation at the bedside to save the lives of the two victims.
Given the critical condition of the victims, two emergency surgeries were immediately performed overnight, lasting from 10pm to 3am the next morning with urgent and smooth coordination between the various departments.
The male student was quickly controlled by the surgical team, the bleeding was stopped by suturing the damaged artery and placing an abdominal drain to treat fluid and blood clots, keeping the patient stable.
The female student had a lung drain placed, stomach and duodenal perforations repaired, and soft tissue injuries treated in order to control bleeding and prevent dangerous complications.
Both are now out of danger, blood pressure is stable, no more bleeding, good contact, and receiving intensive post-operative care in the general surgery department, under close monitoring by a team of doctors.
