Recently, numerous serious railway accidents have occurred nationwide, causing significant loss of life and property. The primary cause has been identified as drivers deliberately disregarding level crossing barriers or warning signals when a train is approaching.

In Lang Son, according to information from the authorities, no railway accidents have been recorded in the province since the beginning of 2026. However, the province currently has two railway lines , Hanoi - Dong Dang and Mai Pha - Na Duong, with a total length of approximately 120 km and over 170 level crossings. Of these, 20 are guarded crossings, 6 have automatic warning systems, and 18 have automatic sensors; the rest are unauthorized crossings that do not meet safety standards.

From the fourth quarter of 2025 to the present, the Traffic Police Department has directed its teams to conduct 40 patrol and control operations to ensure traffic safety at railway crossings, with nearly 300 officers and soldiers participating. They promptly detected and handled 16 violations (13 motorcycles, 3 cars), with a total fine amount exceeding 24 million VND.

In response to this situation, following the directive of the Director of the Traffic Police Department to strengthen inspection and handling of violations at railway level crossings, the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police has implemented a comprehensive set of measures to promptly prevent violations.

Lieutenant Colonel Phuong Thuc Dinh, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police, said: To ensure traffic safety on railways and implement the directives of the Traffic Police Department, the Traffic Police Department has developed and implemented a specialized plan on inspecting and handling violations in the field of railway traffic; focusing on reviewing level crossings between roads and railways, and unauthorized crossings. Based on the actual assessment, the functional forces have deployed officers to increase mobile patrols combined with fixed control at locations with a high risk of accidents, especially during peak hours, and strictly handle cases of deliberate violations.

Accordingly, from the fourth quarter of 2025 to the present, the Traffic Police Department has directed its teams to conduct 40 patrol and control operations to ensure traffic safety at railway crossings, with nearly 300 officers and soldiers participating. They promptly detected and handled 16 violations (13 motorcycles, 3 cars), with a total fine of over 24 million VND. The main violations included: deliberately running warning lights when a train is approaching; crossing a lowered level crossing barrier; stopping or parking vehicles within the clearance limits, etc.

In addition to handling violations, the traffic police have coordinated with local authorities, the railway industry, and various organizations to conduct mobile awareness campaigns, distribute leaflets, and obtain signed commitments from households living along the railway line to comply with railway safety regulations. The awareness campaigns focus on legal regulations, warning of accident risks and the serious consequences that can occur when violating the railway safety corridor. They also encourage residents to voluntarily dismantle structures and buildings that encroach on the railway's safety zone.

Ms. Dang Thi Hoa, residing on Nguyen Dinh Loc Street, Dong Dang Commune, shared: "My family lives near the Hanoi - Dong Dang railway line. Like many other residents in the area, I am always aware that traffic safety must be ensured, especially when crossing the railway tracks. We strictly adhere to regulations on ensuring railway traffic safety, do not arbitrarily create illegal crossings, and always observe carefully before crossing the tracks to ensure safety for ourselves and others..."

Through the synchronized implementation of professional measures, people's awareness of law compliance has gradually improved, and violations at intersections and unauthorized crossings have decreased. In the coming time, the Traffic Police force of the Provincial Public Security Department will continue to strengthen inspections and strictly handle violations, while also recommending that relevant agencies address infrastructure shortcomings and eliminate illegal unauthorized crossings, contributing to ensuring traffic safety on the railway in the area.
