The City's Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, in coordination with various units, localities, and schools, is intensifying efforts to encourage voluntary blood donation, supplementing blood reserves at hospitals and ensuring emergency and treatment services are available during the peak Tet holiday period.

On the last Saturday morning of January 2026, hundreds of students from the University of Education - Da Nang University arrived at school early to participate in the 2026 voluntary blood donation day. The organization was carried out scientifically , ensuring safety, convenience, and creating a comfortable atmosphere for participants.

A student from the Youth Union (Primary Education major) said: “This is my first time participating in voluntary blood donation. If my health permits, I will continue to donate blood regularly to contribute to the blood supply for saving lives at hospitals.”

Representatives from the University of Education - Da Nang University stated that voluntary blood donation is an annual activity of the university's staff, lecturers, and students. During the first blood donation drive of 2026, the organizing committee received over 500 units of blood to supplement the blood supply for emergency and treatment purposes at Da Nang Hospital during the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday.

Following the success of the voluntary blood donation event at the University of Education - Da Nang University, on the first day of February 2026, the Youth Union - Vietnam Youth Union of Hai Van and Hoa Khanh wards jointly organized the first voluntary blood donation event of 2026. At the end of the event, more than 220 units of blood were donated to the blood reserve of Da Nang Hospital, contributing to overcoming the blood shortage during the Tet holiday.

The Lunar New Year holiday in 2026 (Year of the Horse) lasted nine days. To ensure a sufficient blood supply at hospitals, voluntary blood donation campaigns were actively conducted from the beginning of the year. In January 2026, 17 blood donation drives were held across the city, including in localities, universities, and businesses, collecting 5,900 units of blood. In February 2026, 10 blood donation drives were organized, with an expected collection of 2,800 units of blood. This blood was added to the blood reserves at hospitals throughout the city to support medical treatment.

In recent years, the City's Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation has always been proactive in mobilizing voluntary blood donations before, during, and after the Lunar New Year. In 2025, the entire city organized 147 voluntary blood donation drives, receiving 58,412 units of blood, achieving 111% of the assigned target.

In 2026, the estimated blood demand for hospitals is 56,650 units; of which Da Nang Hospital will need 41,600 units, Quang Nam General Hospital 10,850 units, and Quang Nam Northern Mountain Region General Hospital 4,200 units. Based on this, the City's Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation aims to achieve and surpass the set target (56,650 units of blood).
