Food safety and environmental pollution are currently the top concerns of consumers. Based on this reality, recently, Major Au Truong Thanh - working at the 994th Infantry Regiment - Lam Dong Provincial Military Command, has boldly produced organic vegetables to provide clean products to the market; at the same time, helping to create stable jobs for more than 10 local workers.

In addition to working hours at the unit, Mr. Thanh is always actively involved in the garden. |
Previously, Major Thanh's family grew grass and raised cows on a plot of land of more than 3 hectares in Pre village, Phu Hoi commune. However, the economic efficiency of this model was not high. Realizing the importance of food safety and environmental pollution, Major Thanh decided to switch to organic vegetable farming.
This bold decision stems from concerns about consumer health and the desire to protect the environment. Major Thanh and his family have spent a lot of time learning techniques, improving the soil, applying organic farming methods, ensuring no chemicals or pesticides are used.
At the beginning of this new journey, Major Thanh and his family encountered many difficulties. Because growing organic vegetables requires perseverance, meticulousness and the application of scientific techniques. Organic vegetables are vegetables, tubers and fruits of the best quality, the entire production process is strictly controlled from the stages of soil preparation, sowing, watering, fertilizing, harvesting... the products are absolutely not contaminated with any chemicals. That is why Mr. Thanh and his family spent a lot of time treating and restoring the cultivated land, improving the soil source to help plants absorb nutrients better, limiting many bacteria harmful to plants. During the growing process, the family focused on crop rotation, using hot composted manure, green manure, microbial fertilizer, fish compost as nitrogen fertilizer for plants and applying integrated pest management measures for cultivation. The family's farming process absolutely does not use pesticides to prevent pests and diseases, but only uses parasitic fungi to treat pests and diseases.
To have the current organic vegetable production model, it is a process of effort and perseverance of Mr. Thanh and his family. In addition to working hours at the unit, on days off, Mr. Thanh and his agricultural engineer friend actively stick to the garden, effectively prevent pests and diseases to produce organic vegetables with the highest efficiency.
With determination and relentless efforts, Major Thanh has gradually conquered the initial difficulties and challenges. After many years of hard work, his family has reaped worthy results. More than 3 hectares of land are covered with lush organic vegetable beds, which Thanh's family rotates to grow vegetables such as climbing beans, cabbage, lettuce, onions, coriander, chayote... Each year, the market is supplied with more than 60 tons of clean vegetables, tubers and fruits, with an average selling price of 25-30 thousand VND/kg. His family's products are warmly welcomed by the market, especially in big cities such as Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang.
Mr. Thanh said that since starting to produce organic vegetables, he has set a goal of providing organic products directly to consumers, reducing intermediary costs to lower product prices, helping consumers access clean products, ensuring health. Also because he puts the interests and health of consumers first, the source of goods he supplies to the market is a source of quality goods, without pesticide residues, and wherever produced, restaurants, eateries, and consumers buy them, so supply and demand are quite stable. Not only increasing the family's income, in the past time, Major Thanh's family has helped create jobs for about 10 local workers, with a salary of 6 - 7 million VND/person/month.
With his success in the organic vegetable growing model, Major Thanh not only gains economic profits but also contributes to protecting public health and the environment. Currently, he is planning to expand the organic pig and chicken farming model to provide a clean food source for consumers. In addition, he regularly shares his experience in growing organic vegetables with local farmers, contributing to spreading the model of sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural production.
