According to information from the 108 Military Central Hospital, varicocele is an abnormal dilation of the testicular venous system. This is a common disease in men of reproductive age with an incidence rate of about 15%.
Accordingly, many studies show that the rate of varicocele occurs in 40% of primary infertile men and 80% of secondary infertility cases.
Varicocele is very dangerous for men if not treated promptly (photo source: Hospital 108).
Varicocele causes scrotal pain, testicular atrophy, reduced sperm quality and quantity, and decreased testosterone, which seriously affects reproductive health, sexual health, and quality of life.
Doctors say that patients often come to see a doctor because of dull testicular pain that increases with movement and decreases with rest. They can see and feel an abnormal mass in the scrotum. The testicles are smaller than normal or the unaffected side (testicular atrophy). They have slow growth and infertility.
The cause of the disease is due to abnormalities in the anatomical structure of the spermatic cord blood vessels, due to high-intensity, prolonged activity, increased exposure of latent abnormalities of the spermatic cord blood vessels, due to compression by retroperitoneal tumors, and a number of other causes.
According to doctors, treatment of varicocele includes interventional and non-interventional measures.
Non-interventional treatment includes changes in diet, lifestyle, and exercise . Use anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce pain and increase vascular stability.
Interventions: There are many surgical methods for treating varicocele such as open surgery, laparoscopic surgery and microsurgical varicocele ligation.
In which, microsurgery of varicocele is considered a safe and effective method because it limits complications during and after surgery, and has the lowest recurrence rate compared to other methods.
Doctors recommend that patients should go to medical facilities early if they detect the above signs to be examined and advised on appropriate treatment methods for each stage of the disease to improve treatment effectiveness and avoid late complications caused by varicocele.
Patients should visit reputable andrology clinics with modern equipment to help diagnose and treat the disease correctly, promptly and effectively.
