(CLO) Despite suffering significant damage after Typhoon Yagi (Typhoon No. 3), kumquat growers in Tu Lien village (Tay Ho district, Hanoi ) are busy tending and pruning their trees to ensure they can supply ornamental plants to the market before the Lunar New Year.

On the morning of December 10th, in Tu Lien kumquat village, many garden owners were busy tending to, pruning, and transporting potted kumquat trees to special care areas to meet the demand of customers who want to buy ornamental plants.

According to Mr. Hoang Luan (54 years old), owner of Hoang Gia ornamental kumquat garden (Tu Lien village, Tay Ho district, Hanoi), most gardeners here are busy taking care of their kumquat trees at this time, from pruning to supplementing nutrients so that the trees will flower and bear fruit in time for the 2025 Lunar New Year.

Gardeners in Nhat Tan kumquat village are busy tending to their ornamental kumquat trees in preparation for the 2025 Lunar New Year.

"A month ago, our nursery started potting kumquat trees for the Lunar New Year. Ornamental kumquat trees come in various sizes, from small to large, and at different prices. This is the most important period for this year's kumquat crop," shared the owner of Hoang Gia ornamental kumquat garden.

According to Mr. Luan, the care of kumquat trees varies depending on the weather. If it rains a lot, watering should be limited, while in dry weather like during the period leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), watering should be done 1 to 2 times a day to ensure the kumquat tree has enough moisture to grow healthily.

The kumquats have started to ripen, and the tree can be enjoyed through the Lunar New Year of 2025.

At this time, most of the kumquat trees in the nurseries have already been pre-ordered by customers, and the number of visitors coming to view them is increasing daily. Depending on the purpose of the tree, the nurseries advise on the most suitable option. "There are many types of kumquat trees, some costing a few hundred thousand dong per tree, others a few million, and even tens of millions of dong per tree," added the owner of Hoang Gia nursery.

Sharing with reporters, Ms. Ngo Thi Nga - President of the Kumquat Village Association of Tu Lien Ward, said: "The situation of kumquat trees in the locality is the same as in previous years when there were no floods or storms, there were many trees. However, this year the yield has been relatively high, nearly 20 hectares lost. In Zone 1 (along the 310 road to the border with Nhat Tan Ward, an area of 1800m), there are still about 20 hectares of kumquat trees left."

These kumquat trees were purchased by customers in advance of the Lunar New Year 2025.

Regarding the quality of the trees, Ms. Nga said that the quality of ornamental kumquats this year is also guaranteed and unchanged because Tu Lien kumquats have long been renowned for their meticulous care and cultivation, and are famous for their long-standing craft village. Despite being affected by typhoon number 3, the quantity remains unlimited.

In Tu Lien kumquat village, during typhoon number 4 , the area in zone 1, due to its high elevation, was not flooded. The affected areas were mainly zone 7 (bordering the Red River, approximately 14 hectares) and 7 hectares below the dam. In zone 1, only about 1 hectare was affected…

"The kumquat trees in Tu Lien village are diverse in style, and the quality remains the same as every year, with no changes. Customers may have concerns about the price, but we haven't changed anything, and the price remains normal," emphasized the Chairman of the Kumquat Tree Craft Association of Tu Lien Ward.

Lush, green kumquat trees await customers.

At the same time, this person also revealed that while in previous years provinces came to Tu Lien village to import trees for resale, this year the number of customers coming here to buy is significantly lower. As for the quantity of kumquats to serve the people of Hanoi, there is still enough; in fact, there is no shortage.

Overall, the people of Tu Lien kumquat village suffered heavy economic losses after typhoon No. 3. However, with extraordinary resilience and encouragement and support from the local government, the people of Tu Lien village have now somewhat stabilized and are focusing on caring for their ornamental kumquat trees to be ready for the market during the 2025 Lunar New Year.
