The landslides on Provincial Road 152 need to be completely and promptly repaired.

Provincial Road 152 is considered a vital transportation artery connecting the center of the Sa Pa National Tourist Area. However, due to the impact of storms and heavy rains in 2024 and 2025, the road has experienced numerous landslides. Although initial repairs to ensure traffic flow have been urgently implemented, the damaged road surface and large amounts of soil and rocks still pose difficulties and dangers for locals and tourists.

Typhoon No. 3 in 2024 (Typhoon Yagi ) and subsequent storms in 2025 caused serious landslides at many points along Provincial Road 152. The road surface was damaged and narrowed, the drainage system was clogged, posing a potential traffic safety hazard.

The landslides involve large volumes of soil and rocks, making remediation efforts difficult.

Major landslides are concentrated at Km15+600, with a landslide on the embankment, approximately 60 m long along the road surface, about 30 m wide and 25 m high perpendicular to the road; and at Km21+100, with a landslide on the opposite embankment, approximately 25 m long and 20 m deep, encroaching on the road surface and damaging the guardrail system.

Mr. Tran Vu Minh Thuan, a tourist from Dong Tien Hai commune, Hung Yen province, said: "I came to Sa Pa for sightseeing and relaxation, and when I passed through this section of road, I saw landslides, making it very difficult and dangerous to travel. I hope that the relevant authorities and local agencies will soon address the landslides so that travel can be more convenient and safer."

Mr. Dang Phuc Them, from Phong Du Ha commune, Lao Cai province, who frequently travels through landslide areas on Provincial Road 152, also expressed his concern: "I often travel along this road and have seen that landslides have been occurring for quite some time. I hope that the relevant authorities will soon take measures to resolve the issue so that tourists and residents can travel more conveniently."

For professional drivers, the narrow and bumpy roads make travel even more challenging. Truck driver Nguyen Van Thai from Hiep Hoa commune, Bac Ninh province, said: "Landslides have narrowed the road and created many potholes. Traveling is very difficult, especially for large vehicles; passing each other is a real struggle."

Immediately after the landslide occurred, the Lao Cai Provincial Road Maintenance Management Board quickly implemented temporary measures and simultaneously developed a plan for thorough remediation.

Mr. Tran Cong Hoa, Deputy Director of the Road Maintenance Management Board of Lao Cai province, said: Provincial Road 152 still has two landslide locations that have been cleared to ensure traffic safety, but a large amount of soil and rocks remain. The province has authorized the establishment of a project to thoroughly address these two landslide points.

The decision to launch the project demonstrates the decisive involvement of Lao Cai province in addressing the deteriorating infrastructure. The project focuses on two severely affected landslide areas with advanced, sophisticated technical solutions, and has an estimated total cost of over 2.9 billion VND.
