Firmly protect maritime and island sovereignty .
Da Dong Island is oriented east-west, 253 nautical miles from the Cam Ranh Peninsula. The island has a coral reef area of approximately 65 km², a length of about 14 km, and a width of about 3.8 km. Da Dong has a nearly enclosed lagoon, with a channel on the west side providing convenient access for transferring goods from ships to the island. The northern coral belt is higher than the southern belt, emerging when the tide recedes to 0.4 m. Due to its proximity to the equator, it experiences a high number of sunny days (300 days/year).

Along with other islands in the Spratly Archipelago, Da Dong Island serves as an outer shield protecting the eastern flank of the South Central provinces. Located within the Spratly Islands cluster, Da Dong Island coordinates with other islands in the cluster and the Spratly Archipelago to form a continuous defense system protecting the sea, islands, and mainland. The area surrounding the island is home to many valuable fish species such as: pomfret, mackerel, tuna, grouper, and many other marine life. Therefore, during calm seas, many fishing vessels from coastal localities of Vietnam, including Binh Thuan , come to fish, exploit, and process seafood.
Major Dao Quoc Tuan, Commander of Da Dong Island, stated that, upholding the tradition of "Brave fighting, proactive unity, overcoming difficulties, and maintaining sovereignty" of the heroic Truong Sa group, in recent years, the officers and soldiers of Da Dong Island have always been united, proactive, flexible, and creative in all situations, successfully fulfilling their nhiệm vụ of firmly protecting the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland's sea and islands. With the attention of the Party and the State, Da Dong Island has been built with three sturdy houses and one spacious, clean, and solid rescue and relief house. The island also has a wind and solar energy system, contributing to improving the living, studying, and working conditions of the officers and soldiers. At night, viewed from afar, the Da Dong island cluster resembles shimmering lighthouses, full of life amidst the vast ocean, uniting millions of Vietnamese hearts towards Truong Sa – the sacred land of the Fatherland in the middle of the sea.

Enhancing the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers.
Now, the material and spiritual lives of the officers and soldiers on Da Dong Island are gradually improving. The satellite signal receiving station of Vietnam Television has helped the officers and soldiers on the island to keep up-to-date with domestic and international news. On the island, there are libraries with nearly 1,000 books and over 20 different newspapers, and a legal library... thereby raising awareness, confidence, and responsibility in the cause of protecting the sovereignty of the Fatherland's seas and islands. On Da Dong Island, the freshwater used for daily life is extracted from rainwater and transported from the mainland.
In recent years, thanks to the equipped water reservoir system, the island has been able to proactively ensure 100% of its water needs. To grow vegetables, the officers and soldiers on Da Dong Island have to transport small bags of soil from the mainland. Although freshwater is scarce, thanks to the economical, scientific, and appropriate use of freshwater in daily life, the officers and soldiers on Da Dong Island have been able to grow many kinds of vegetables to meet their needs and improve the living standards of the troops.
Besides carrying out training and combat readiness duties, the officers and soldiers of Da Dong Island actively and proactively participate in rescue operations, assisting fishermen, and effectively implementing the program "The Vietnamese Navy as a support for fishermen to venture out to sea." Each year, the island provides free medical examinations and medicine to dozens of fishermen and presents national flags to fishing vessels. These simple yet noble actions of the officers and soldiers of Da Dong Island have contributed to enhancing the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers - the image of the Navy soldier" in the hearts of the people. Throughout their development, combat, and growth, generations of officers and soldiers of Da Dong Island have achieved outstanding accomplishments, and have regularly been awarded the title of "Unit of Decisive Victory" by the Naval Command.
According to the Commander of Da Dong Island, the task of protecting maritime sovereignty and islands is currently facing higher and more urgent demands. Deeply understanding the resolutions and directives of the Party, and upholding the heroic traditions of the Truong Sa Regiment, the officers and soldiers of Da Dong Island will continue to closely adhere to key political tasks, effectively implement breakthroughs, and excellently fulfill their assigned duties. They will intensify the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style, in conjunction with the campaign "Promoting traditions, contributing talents, worthy of the title of Ho Chi Minh's soldiers - Naval soldiers" in the new era, building Da Dong Island into an island that is "strong in defense, good in lifestyle, beautiful in environmental landscape, and exemplary in military-civilian solidarity," worthy of the trust and affection of the military and people nationwide.
