Meeting the travel needs of people during Tet holiday.

Việt NamViệt Nam27/01/2025

The Lunar New Year holiday is a time when businesses and units operating in the passenger transport sector mobilize maximum manpower and vehicles, and develop appropriate schedules to meet the travel needs of the people. Therefore, the Department of Transport (DOT) directs its specialized departments and units to implement the plan; requiring transport units to prepare transportation plans, ensuring price stability and security during operations... to better meet the travel needs of the people.

Meeting the travel needs of people during Tet holiday.

To meet the increased travel demand during the Lunar New Year holiday, many bus companies have prepared plans to increase the number of trips to serve passengers.

In 2024, transportation services in general, and passenger transport in particular, in the province were strengthened. Bus routes were restored and resumed operation, improving in quality and better meeting the travel needs of the people. During the year, the Phu Tho Bus Station Management Board signed contracts with nearly 50 transport units inside and outside the province, with a total of 240 vehicles in operation (13 intra-provincial routes and 227 inter-provincial routes); a total of 85 routes were in operation (5 intra-provincial routes and 80 inter-provincial routes). It is predicted that passenger traffic during the Tet holiday will increase at certain times of the day, with an increase of approximately 15% to 20% compared to normal days on intra-provincial and inter-provincial routes.

To ensure traffic safety and reduce passenger congestion at bus stations under its management during the Tet holiday, the unit has established a Steering Committee for Passenger Transportation Services; developed a comprehensive plan for passenger transportation services at the stations during Tet. It ensures transparency and compliance with regulations regarding transportation fares and service fees at bus stations; strengthens inspection and control of vehicle technical conditions and driver qualifications before departure; resolutely prevents vehicles that do not meet safety standards from departing; and strictly controls the transportation of prohibited goods. It also carries out station maintenance and environmental sanitation; disseminates information to drivers, onboard service personnel, and the public about policies and plans for passenger transportation; and closely coordinates with relevant authorities to ensure safety, security, and public order.

To better serve the transportation needs of the people and ensure convenience and safety, passenger transport businesses must develop and implement plans and strategies for organizing transportation activities; have plans to increase and reserve vehicles when passenger demand increases dramatically; ensure vehicles are in good technical condition when participating in traffic; instruct and educate drivers to comply with regulations on driving time and speed, and absolutely prohibit the use of alcohol before and during driving; remind passengers to wear seat belts as required; and display information as required. They must ensure transparency and compliance with regulations regarding transportation fares. They must assign staff to monitor the speed, route, continuous driving time, and daily working hours of drivers through data from vehicle tracking devices and camera footage to promptly detect, warn, and handle violations.

Mr. Duong Van Minh, Head of the Transport Management Department, stated: The Department has advised the leadership of the Department of Transport to establish a Steering Committee to ensure the smooth running of transportation services and traffic safety during the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival of the Year of the Snake 2025. Staff will be assigned to be on duty during the holidays; coordination with the Department's Inspectorate, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee Office, the Traffic Management Department, and specialized departments of the People's Committees of districts, cities, and towns will be maintained to supervise and inspect the preparation and organization of services for the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival by passenger transport units and bus stations. The department will also strengthen the use of data from vehicle tracking devices to inspect and handle violations.

Passengers can refer to the information board at Viet Tri Bus Station regarding routes, schedules, and price lists.

To date, in addition to fully meeting the transportation needs of the people, the Department of Transport continues to direct road management units to strengthen regular maintenance and repair work. They are intensifying road patrols to promptly detect and handle traffic obstructions and unsafe traffic conditions; coordinating with local authorities and functional forces to promptly prevent and handle violations. They are developing plans to ensure traffic safety, security, and prevent traffic congestion on the assigned roads. They are ensuring smooth traffic flow on the roads under their management; deploying personnel and machinery to ensure traffic safety 24/7, and immediately deploying forces to clear the road in case of traffic congestion.

The Department of Transport directed its inspection force to develop plans and effectively implement tasks to ensure traffic safety during the Tet holiday. They coordinated with the police force to manage traffic flow and ensure smooth traffic when needed. They intensified inspections and enforcement against violations such as: encroachment and illegal use of road lanes, sidewalks, and road safety corridors; violations of road management, maintenance, and repair regulations; and traffic safety violations at construction sites on currently operating roads. They also continued to inspect the conditions for vehicles departing from bus stations throughout the province. This contributed to reducing traffic congestion, ensuring smooth traffic flow, and effectively serving the travel needs of the people.
