Hunas Home Green Herbs Cooperative, located in Tan Hoa Ward, Hoa Binh City, supplies safe products to the market and creates jobs for local workers.

Visiting the Hunas Home Green Herb Cooperative in Tan Hoa Ward, Hoa Binh City, amidst lush green hills are gardens of medicinal plants such as *Nuc Nac*, *La Be*, *Nhoi*, roses, lemons, lemongrass, etc. The cooperative not only cultivates valuable medicinal plants but also produces many green products such as medicinal teas, artistic flower teas, and consumer goods, supplying the market in Hoa Binh and neighboring provinces and cities. Ms. Vu Thi Nga, Director of the cooperative, said: Since its establishment, the cooperative has focused on planting, producing, and processing local herbal products that are popular in the market. These products bring economic value to producers and health benefits to consumers. The cooperative takes advantage of the local abundant herbal resources and creates jobs for many unemployed agricultural workers with stable incomes.

Hoa Binh province possesses a rich ecosystem with diverse soil and forest types, favorable for the growth and development of medicinal plants. Particularly noteworthy is the potential for establishing concentrated medicinal plant production areas and for the conservation, exploitation, and development of valuable, rare, and precious natural medicinal plants. According to data from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province has over 2,300 hectares of medicinal and aromatic plants cultivated and harvested annually. Plants with large areas and high yields include: lemongrass (1,600 hectares); Silybum marianum (379 hectares); and Rhus chinensis (nearly 300 hectares). Many endemic species with high medicinal value have been discovered and used by local people for generations. Knowledge and experience in identifying, harvesting, and using native medicinal plants have been passed down through generations, creating a solid foundation for the development of medicinal plants. This represents a long-term and sustainable direction for the economic development of the local people.

The province has several concentrated medicinal plant cultivation areas, but they are still small-scale and lack systematic investment. Medicinal products are mainly in raw or semi-processed form, with low added value. In recent years, some businesses and cooperatives have shown interest in investing in the medicinal plant sector, establishing large-scale specialized medicinal plant cultivation areas, and applying VietGAP and GACP-WHO standards to ensure product quality and safety.

In the coming period, the province will identify key medicinal plants with high economic value, suitable to the natural conditions of each region. It will cooperate with research institutes and universities to research and develop high-yield medicinal plant varieties with high active ingredient content. It will develop advanced, sustainable, and environmentally friendly cultivation processes. It will invest in infrastructure for deep processing and the production of high-value-added medicinal products such as functional foods, cosmetics, and modern traditional medicine. It will build a reputable Hoa Binh medicinal plant brand with clear origins and traceability. It will participate in domestic and international trade fairs and exhibitions to promote its products. It will develop diverse distribution channels, including both traditional markets and e-commerce. It will improve the professional skills of farmers and management staff in the fields of cultivation, processing, and trading of medicinal plants. It will encourage the participation of businesses and cooperatives.

Hoa Binh province prioritizes the conservation of rare and valuable medicinal plants, preventing overexploitation. It is developing organic and environmentally friendly farming models to ensure the sustainable development of the medicinal plant industry. The province is strengthening linkages between farmers, businesses, scientists, and managers to create a complete medicinal plant value chain. It is also collaborating with other localities and international partners to learn from their experiences and expand markets. The development of the medicinal plant industry not only brings economic benefits to local people and contributes to poverty reduction, but also preserves and promotes traditional cultural values and protects the ecological environment.
