(CPV) – The Vietnamese sports delegation had a spectacular day for female wrestlers in the freestyle wrestling events at the 32nd SEA Games, with athletes winning consecutively in all six finals.
On May 15th, the women's freestyle wrestling competition began. On this day, wrestler Nguyen Thi Xuan was the first to compete in the women's 50kg category. In her first match, our female athlete defeated her Indonesian opponent Safitria, confidently advancing to the next round. After the round-robin competition, Nguyen Thi Xuan finished first, winning the championship and the gold medal.
Following Nguyen Thi Xuan, victory also came to Nguyen Thi My Trang in the women's 57kg freestyle category, as this category only had 3 competitors, so a round-robin format was used. My Trang won the gold medal, while her opponents from Singapore and host country Cambodia finished second and third respectively.
In the women's 59kg category, Tran Anh Tuyet secured a gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games by finishing first in her weight class with victories over opponents from Thailand and the Philippines. Only three wrestlers registered to compete in this event.
Athlete Nguyen Thi My Hanh also won the gold medal in women's wrestling in the 62kg weight category after defeating the Cambodian athlete in the final.
The Vietnamese wrestling team's victory also included a gold medal won by Lai Dieu Thuong, who easily defeated her Laotian and Cambodian opponents in the 68kg weight category. Along with Dieu Thuong, Dang Thi Linh also won both of her matches against opponents from Indonesia and Singapore, securing the gold medal in the women's 76kg weight category.
Throughout the day's competition, we participated in 6 weight categories and won in all 6 events. Thus, the Vietnamese wrestling team has won 9 gold medals, meeting the target set before the SEA Games 32.
