(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training have requested that schools strictly adhere to regulations regarding teaching two sessions per day, otherwise they risk being accused of "disguised extra classes".

This issue was raised by the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training at the conference summarizing the first semester and implementing tasks for the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year for secondary education .

According to Mr. Le Duy Tan, Head of the Secondary Education Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, before the issuance of Circular 29 by the Ministry of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh City had already implemented a policy of prohibiting extracurricular tutoring in schools. Therefore, this circular does not affect teaching and learning in schools in the city.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requires schools to strictly adhere to the guidelines for teaching two sessions per day, avoiding accusations of "disguised extra classes" (Illustrative image: Hoai Nam).

However, regarding teaching two sessions per day, schools need to strictly adhere to regulations; otherwise, they risk being accused of "disguised tutoring." Specifically, teaching two sessions per day must not involve cutting classes to incorporate the elements of extra tutoring, which violates Circular 29.

Mr. Le Duy Tan emphasized that schools need to review their two-session-per-day teaching schedule, adhering closely to the Department's guidelines, and aiming to educate students for international integration.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, suggested that in the second semester, schools should review their educational plans, the two-session-per-day teaching plan, and the extracurricular plan, ensuring compliance with regulations. Particular attention should be paid to adhering to Circular 29 on supplementary teaching and learning.

According to Mr. Quoc, Circular 29 contains many new provisions, which inevitably raises concerns among teachers. However, schools and teachers need to carefully study the circular to implement it correctly and effectively.

Regarding extracurricular educational activities, according to a report from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, some educational institutions have not provided complete information to parents, causing some confusion and misconceptions that this is a mandatory activity.

This negatively impacts the policy of socializing education by enhancing experiential, practical, and hands-on activities for students.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training emphasizes that additional extracurricular activities contribute to the holistic education of students. However, organizing these activities is voluntary and requires the participation and contribution of the learners.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, organizing extracurricular activities still faces difficulties in terms of scheduling and ensuring the consensus of participating students while considering the school's organizational capabilities.

The Department also assessed that teachers lack specialized training and experience in organizing life skills education activities, so most schools collaborate with businesses to implement them.
