Thanks to its advantageous geographical location and increasingly improved border infrastructure, Tay Ninh plays a particularly important role in the border trade economic space of the Southeast region. In recent years, the border line has not only served as a "shield" protecting sovereignty but has also become a new growth engine, where the flows of goods, services, logistics, and tourism are becoming increasingly vibrant.
Developing border trade - Forming a new growth pole for the province.
In recent years, border gate infrastructure has received significant investment, border economic zones are becoming increasingly complete, and border trade mechanisms are more open. Border trade is entering a period of accelerated growth, making a significant contribution to the province's socio-economic growth.
Notably, on December 8, 2025, the opening ceremony of the Tan Nam (Vietnam) - Meun Chey (Cambodia) International Border Gate took place on a national scale. Located on the border section from markers 131-132, the border gate area was officially opened in late May 2021, creating an important trade corridor for businesses and border residents. The upgrade and official opening will increase customs clearance capacity and open up opportunities for the formation of a new growth pole in the southwestern part of Tay Ninh province.

The picture of border trade in Tay Ninh in 2025 also shows many positive signs. As of November 20, 2025, the total number of vehicles passing through the province's 5 border gates reached 399,096, collecting 463.5 billion VND in fees, exceeding the initial target by 182.43%. Notably, Moc Bai International Border Gate accounted for the largest share with 267,997 vehicles, collecting 376.19 billion VND; followed by Binh Hiep, Xa Mat, Chang Riec, and Tan Nam, all recording growth exceeding expectations. These figures clearly reflect the increasingly important role of border gates in attracting trade, transportation, and logistics, and also show the strong shift of goods flow towards the Tay Ninh border. The bustling import and export activities have led to a demand for investment in infrastructure, logistics, warehouses, border markets, and supporting industries.

According to Truong Thanh Liem, Head of the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board: “The province's border gates and border economic zones have effectively promoted cross-border trade, efficiently exploiting the advantages of connectivity with Cambodia and neighboring provinces. In the coming time, the province will continue to review and adjust planning, invite investment to develop industrial, urban, and commercial infrastructure, and strengthen coordination in border patrol and control, managing vehicles and businesses to promptly detect violations. The dissemination of customs laws to residents will also be intensified to raise awareness of compliance. This is the foundation for implementing the Border Trade Development Plan for the period 2026-2030, which the province is prioritizing.”

The robust development of border trade is only sustainable when border security and order are maintained. This is the foundation for businesses to invest with confidence, for people to settle down and establish their livelihoods, and for trade activities to proceed smoothly.
Guided by the motto "Building a peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and sustainable border," and in conjunction with the implementation of the Vietnam-Cambodia Border Trade Agreement (signed on November 8, 2022), Tay Ninh province and the three neighboring provinces of Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, and Tboung Khmum have strengthened cooperation in an increasingly substantive and effective manner. The province has signed three comprehensive cooperation agreements with the three neighboring provinces and 36 coordination regulations between departments, agencies, and organizations on both sides, creating a foundation for the border region to become a dynamic development space.

This close connection has expanded the economic space and created momentum for significant growth in trade between the two sides. From the beginning of 2025 to the present, the total import and export turnover between Tay Ninh and Cambodia has reached approximately 2.74 billion USD, of which exports amounted to over 1.03 billion USD and imports to approximately 1.71 billion USD; goods exchanged by residents through border crossings reached over 1,700 billion VND.
Affirming the strategic role of the Tay Ninh border line, Colonel Pham Van Co, Deputy Commander of the Provincial Border Guard, emphasized: “Clearly recognizing the position and role of foreign affairs work, the Party Committee and the Command of the Provincial Border Guard have been implementing comprehensive and decisive solutions to improve the quality and effectiveness of this important work, creating a combined strength to manage and firmly protect national sovereignty and border security, and protect the Fatherland from early on and from afar. According to the 2019 Border Demarcation and Marker Placement Protocol, Tay Ninh manages a border section nearly 369km long, bordering three provinces of the Kingdom of Cambodia, forming a border space that is both crucial for national defense and security and dynamic for international trade. In the trend of international economic integration, border defense foreign affairs work not only serves the task of protecting sovereignty but also expands cooperation in trade and tourism, creating a safe environment for investors and businesses.”
In the province's border trade economic development landscape, Moc Bai International Border Gate plays a strategic connecting role. Located on the Trans-Asian Highway, Moc Bai is only 70km from Ho Chi Minh City and 170km from Phnom Penh (Cambodia), making it the busiest border crossing in the province and a crucial gateway for trade between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Inspection and monitoring of goods transport vehicles are carried out strictly at border gates, ensuring smooth trade operations.
Here, the Moc Bai International Border Gate Border Guard Station has implemented various solutions to support businesses, such as: improving inspection procedures to shorten entry and exit times and import/export times; coordinating with customs to share electronic data to reduce duplication of procedures; and strengthening information exchange and joint patrols with Cambodian border guards to promptly handle emerging situations.
“The Border Guard Force has always recognized that the task of protecting sovereignty must go hand in hand with creating favorable conditions for trade activities. Protecting the land and borders is a sacred responsibility, but opening up a clear path for trade to develop in the right direction is also a task that each of our officers and soldiers always strives to fulfill,” said Lieutenant Colonel Vi Trung Kien, Commander of the Moc Bai International Border Gate Border Guard Station.
With its strategic location, improving border infrastructure, continuously growing trade flows, and the coordinated efforts of relevant authorities, Tay Ninh is poised to become a major hub for trade, logistics, and border economic activity in the Southeast region. The harmonious combination of economic development and border security is the key to creating a dynamic, safe, and open Tay Ninh, where the border serves not only as a national gateway but also as a trade route connecting Vietnam with the Mekong sub-region.
According to Plan No. 4885/KH-UBND, dated October 9, 2025, Tay Ninh province aims to make border trade a key driver of socio-economic growth by 2030, while striving to become a transit point for import and export goods from the Southern Key Economic Region to Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and ASEAN. The plan also sets a target for the total value of import and export goods through the border gate system to increase by an average of 7.5% per year, while continuing to refine the planning of border economic zones and the system of international, main, and auxiliary border gates. |
