(Chinhphu.vn) - The movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, if successfully implemented in 2025, will be a memorable milestone, as for the first time in history, there will be no more temporary or dilapidated houses nationwide, a feat perhaps not many developing countries in the world have achieved.

On April 13th, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh , Chairman of the Central Emulation and Commendation Council, launched a nationwide emulation movement to "Eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" across the country by 2025.
Many people were deeply moved by the sincere and heartfelt sharing of the Head of Government at this event. It was even more touching when the Prime Minister and other Party and State leaders went to the villages to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony and foundation digging for houses for the local people.
As the Prime Minister shared, every citizen and business should contribute whatever they can, whether they have labor or resources, whether they have much or little, creating a movement and trend for the poor, for the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, without pretense or formality, helping the poor realize their age-old dream of "settling down and making a living".
This event holds profound humanitarian significance amidst the nationwide enthusiastic emulation movement towards the 49th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country, and the 70th anniversary of the glorious Dien Bien Phu Victory, which "shook the world." In fact, over the past years, Vietnam has achieved the United Nations Millennium Development Goals ahead of schedule, becoming a model for poverty eradication and reduction, recognized by the international community as a shining example of poverty reduction worldwide!
While most households across the country now have sturdy, safe housing, hundreds of thousands of families are still living in temporary or dilapidated houses. This is a heartbreaking and distressing situation for all of us.
About a month ago, presiding over a conference to address difficulties and promote the development of social housing (March 16, 2024), the Prime Minister announced a nationwide campaign to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, emphasizing that housing is one of the three pillars of social security, and that "a stable home is essential for a successful career." This information was met with enthusiastic applause from businesses and associations in the conference hall.
In fact, in the government's administration, every month is dedicated to the poor. At regular meetings, the government always spends time reviewing the implementation of social security policies, how household incomes have changed, the funding for supporting poor and near-poor households, the amount of rice provided during Tet and lean seasons, and what additional policies and programs are needed for the poor…
The Prime Minister has always emphasized that economic growth must be linked to social progress and equity, environmental protection, improving all aspects of people's lives, and ensuring that everyone benefits from growth. As General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong stated, we will not sacrifice equity, social progress, social security, or the environment in pursuit of mere growth.
The government is making every effort to implement measures to promote rapid and sustainable poverty reduction, ensuring that all citizens have the opportunity to progress. Despite budget constraints, the government still allocates significant resources to the implementation of social security policies.

At the launch ceremony of the nationwide emulation movement to "eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses," the Prime Minister set the goal of mobilizing resources to build and repair 170,000 houses for poor and near-poor households nationwide from now until the end of 2025.
The implementation period is short, and resources are limited. Therefore, "let us stand alongside them, put ourselves in the shoes of the poor, of the less fortunate, to help with sincerity, with our hearts, with understanding, with respect and compassion," the Prime Minister once said. The Prime Minister emphasized that relevant stakeholders must put themselves in the position of those without housing in order to act.
That's right, poverty reduction is not a race for achievements measured by numbers, but rather about truly building a more fulfilling life, both materially and spiritually, for the people, helping them escape poverty sustainably, starting with having a place to live and work. Ministries, departments, and local governments must carry out their work proactively, effectively, flexibly, and without pretense or formality.
For the movement to achieve the desired results, it requires the efforts of the entire community, the sharing of compassionate hearts, and more practical connections... Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses must be done with the spirit of "A million loving hearts - A thousand happy homes".
This will be a powerful general offensive, demonstrating not only the determination and unity of the entire political system and the whole population, but also requiring the efforts of the poor households themselves, with the spirit of Dien Bien Phu, uniting to overcome poverty. The State provides support, the community helps, and households participate in contributing to the construction of housing.
Only then will the nationwide emulation movement to "eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" spread widely throughout society and communities, and achieve great success and tangible results, as the Prime Minister expressed at the launching ceremony.
Looking forward to the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country (2025), the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Party (2030), and further to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the nation (2045), from the point where "the whole nation was starving and living in straw huts" (a poem by Che Lan Vien) before achieving independence, reunification, and freedom, we are realizing the aspiration for a strong and prosperous country, where the people are increasingly well-fed and happy both materially and spiritually, as was the "ultimate desire" of our beloved President Ho Chi Minh during his lifetime: Everyone has enough food and clothing, everyone has access to education, and everyone has decent housing…
