At the same time, it is also the time when football betting forms arise and increase, attracting a large number of players, causing many consequences and economic recession for families and society.
Warning about organized gambling and gambling in the form of football betting for the Euro and Copa America seasons in 2024
The European Football Championship (EURO 2024) and the South American Football Championship 2024 (COPA AMERICA 2024) are scheduled to take place from June 15, 2024 to July 15, 2024. These are major sports and entertainment events, attracting a large number of fans around the world, including Vietnam. At the same time, it is also the time when football betting forms arise and increase, attracting a large number of players, causing many consequences and economic recession for families and society. With the mentality of being passionate about football, putting faith in favorite teams and wanting to have money to play, many people have been lured and enticed to participate in football betting directly or online. This is also the reason for the increase and complexity of other crimes and law violations such as theft, robbery, snatching, fraud, intentional injury, loan sharking in civil transactions, human trafficking, etc. According to current law, the act of betting on football with money or objects is considered gambling, depending on the level, it will be handled administratively or prosecuted criminally according to the provisions of Articles 321 and 322 of the Penal Code. Currently, gambling organizations have taken advantage of cyberspace to set up many football betting websites with server systems located abroad, and at the same time, they have tried to advertise and entice players to open accounts to participate in football betting. To proactively prevent organized gambling crimes and gambling in the form of football betting during the EURO and COPA AMERICA seasons in 2024, the Criminal Police Department of Thai Binh Provincial Police recommends:
1. Every citizen needs to raise awareness of complying with the provisions of the law related to social evils, be passionate and love football but resolutely stay away from football betting, must be aware of the consequences and harms of gambling on the lives of themselves, their families and society.
2. Pay attention, manage, educate and motivate relatives and people around to be vigilant, avoid being lured into losing money and participating in football betting.
3. Owners of food and beverage service establishments, coffee shops, beer bars, entertainment venues, internet cafes, etc. must strictly comply with the provisions of the law on security and order. During the process of organizing football viewing, they must not organize football betting and must not assist or cover up for subjects to take advantage of organizing football betting.
4. In case of detecting suspicious subjects related to football betting, it is necessary to promptly report to the nearest police agency or report to the Criminal Police Department of Thai Binh Provincial Police via hotline 069.2760.273 for investigation and handling measures to contribute to a healthy social environment.
Detailed schedule of Copa America 2024 football tournament
Copa America 2024 will feature 10 teams from South America and 6 teams from CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Football). Copa America 2024 will be the 48th edition of the South American Football Championship. This event will take place in the United States from June 21, 2024 to July 15, 2024. This is the second time Copa America will be held in the United States, after the first in 2016 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the most important tournament for national teams in South America. This year's tournament will feature 10 teams from South America and 6 teams from CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Football). Copa America 2024 will feature 16 teams divided into 4 groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The opening match will be between defending champions Argentina and Canada (Group A) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atalanta on June 21. The final will take place on July 15 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida with a capacity of up to 65,300 people.
