FAM still decided to appeal CAS even though there is little chance of reversing the situation. |
FAM is moving forward with proceedings to bring the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), in a last-ditch effort to overturn the ruling, which is seen as a "heavy blow" to the country's football reputation.
FAM’s tough stance shows that they have not accepted the allegations of falsifying documents, which have been investigated and concluded by FIFA. Observers in Malaysia say this is a manifestation of “conservatism, stubbornness and lack of reality”, when the evidence of wrongdoing is increasingly abundant and clear.
On social media, many leaked documents continue to cause shock. Copies that were supposed to prove the Malaysian origin of 7 naturalized players have now become counterproductive evidence, raising suspicions of systematic fraud in the process of legalizing citizenship.
Despite the growing criticism, FAM still maintains its innocence and will continue to pursue the case to the end. Acting President Yusoff Mahadi announced that the federation will ask FIFA to provide a detailed explanation, before officially filing a complaint with CAS.
The fake documents scandal has plunged Malaysian football into a serious crisis of confidence. Not only have seven players been suspended, FAM also faces the risk of having points deducted from their 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
