In an interview on the Conversations with Tyler podcast, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman made a bold statement, emphasizing his commitment to AI advancement.
“It would be embarrassing for me if OpenAI wasn’t the first major company to be run by an AI CEO. What would have to happen for an AI CEO to be much better at running OpenAI than I am?” Altman said.
The creator of ChatGPT is even actively thinking about ways to speed up this process. Altman believes it's only a matter of years before AI is capable enough to run a large department within OpenAI.
If that day does come and the leadership role at OpenAI is transferred, Altman says he already has his next job lined up: being a farmer.
“I have a farm. I lived there for a while and I really loved it,” says the OpenAI CEO. Before ChatGPT exploded, Altman admits he spent more time on the farm.
Over the years, the OpenAI CEO has purchased multimillion-dollar properties in San Francisco, Napa, California, and a $43 million estate in Hawaii.
OpenAI has announced a change in structure, splitting into a nonprofit foundation and a for-profit company. The new commercial company's mission will remain under the control of the nonprofit.
This allows OpenAI to operate like a traditional company, but still be able to raise billions of dollars to improve infrastructure and develop new AI models.
According to the New York Times , this move is expected to open a new development path for OpenAI. Not only allowing capital mobilization or stock offering opportunities, the change also emphasizes the company's position in the AI field, competing equally with big names like Google, Amazon and Meta.
