Caught foreigners using fake BTS stations to spread messages

Authorities have caught a foreigner using fake BTS devices to access mobile networks and spread advertising and fraudulent messages.

Information from the Radio Frequency Department ( Ministry of Science and Technology ) on the afternoon of November 6 said that this unit coordinated with functional units to catch a foreign subject using fake BTS devices to spread advertising and fraudulent messages.

Specifically, at 4:45 p.m. on November 3, 2025, the Regional Radio Frequency Center I (under the Radio Frequency Department) received information that there were signs of fake BTS spreading messages in Hanoi. Immediately, Center I coordinated with professional units under the Ministry of Public Security and Hanoi City Police to use technical equipment to quickly identify the source of the fake BTS broadcast.

At 7:00 p.m. the same day, authorities caught a foreigner using a fake BTS device to access the mobile information network and spread advertising and fraudulent messages.

According to the representative of the Radio Frequency Department, this is a case in which the subjects used a new method, placing fake BTS devices in travel suitcases, continuously changing the TAC (Terminal Access Controller - Station Identification Code), small broadcasting range, moving to crowded areas to avoid monitoring and detection by authorities.

Previously, the Radio Frequency Department coordinated with functional forces to catch many cases of using fake BTS devices to spread scam messages in many localities across the country./.
