MU owner sued by Tottenham over past contracts. |
The Daily Mail reported that Ineos had to pay around £11 million. Under the initial contract, Ineos became Tottenham's "official 4x4 vehicle partner" for a period of five years, with a minimum total value of up to £17.5 million.
However, in March this year, Tottenham unilaterally terminated the agreement after accusing Ineos of failing to make regular payments, with the amount owed amounting to more than £5.5 million.
Tottenham then sued Ineos, demanding nearly £5.3 million in compensation. However, the two sides reached a settlement for around half that amount, estimated at more than £11 million including legal costs and add-ons.
Meanwhile, Ineos also filed a counter-suit, demanding Tottenham pay more than £1 million in compensation for "violation of commercial exclusivity". According to Ineos, Tottenham was negotiating a cooperation with Audi at the time of the transfer of striker Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, thereby violating the exclusivity clause in the sponsorship contract.
However, Tottenham denied this allegation and affirmed that no official agreement had ever been reached with Audi.
The court case between Tottenham and Ineos has ended as Sir Jim Ratcliffe's group cuts back on sports sponsorships due to mounting financial pressure.
