Ronaldo and Messi have contrasting views on the World Cup. |
According to Messi, for any player, lifting the World Cup trophy is the pinnacle of glory a career can reach. Speaking at the America Business Forum in Florida, the Inter Miami star said: "The feeling of winning the World Cup is hard to describe. For me, it's not just a title for myself, but also a source of pride for my teammates, my family, and my country. After so many years of waiting, the people of Argentina have finally lived their dream."
Messi called the 2022 World Cup victory the final piece to close his legendary career: "For a player, the World Cup is the ultimate achievement. After that, there's nothing more to dream of. I was lucky to have won every title at club and individual levels before that, and then won the Copa America with Argentina. The World Cup is the most complete gift, like closing my journey."
Previously, in an interview with journalist Piers Morgan, Ronaldo stated: "If you ask me if I dream of winning the World Cup? No. A tournament with only 6-7 matches can't define who the greatest player in history is."
Ronaldo still has a chance as Portugal heads towards the 2026 World Cup. Meanwhile, Messi and Argentina are ready to defend their title, aiming to become the first team since Brazil (1958-1962) to win the World Cup twice in a row.
