According to Turkish media, Besiktas inquired about Mainoo's situation and expressed a desire to loan the 20-year-old midfielder on an 18-month contract. This is considered a very bold offer, as loan agreements typically last only about 6 months or a year.
Mainoo's current contract with MU runs until 2027, with an option to extend for another year. This means that if Manchester United agree to a long-term loan, they will likely have to activate the extension clause or renew the contract to maintain the player's value.
Besides Besiktas, Napoli is also reportedly keeping a close eye on Mainz and is ready to enter the race if MU gives the green light. However, sources emphasize that if a Premier League club joins the race in the near future, they will quickly gain the biggest advantage in the deal.
The reason is that Mainoo prioritizes staying in England. At the age of 20, continuing to play in the Premier League helps him maintain peak performance, competitiveness, and, most importantly, keeps him on the radar of the England national team.
Since Ruben Amorim took over as manager at Old Trafford in November 2024, Mainoo has struggled to secure a starting place. In the 2025/26 season, he has only played 12 matches, starting only once, with the rest being limited appearances from the bench.
