Math exam for 2025 High School Graduation Exam is assessed to have high differentiation

On the afternoon of June 26, the 2025 High School Graduation Exam continued with the Math subject. In Ha Nam province, more than 10,300 candidates entered the exam room on time, with a serious attitude and determination to complete the exam well.

According to information from the Ha Nam Departmentof Education and Training, the whole province has 10,325 candidates registered to take the Math exam, of which 10,195 candidates are studying in grade 12 under the 2018 General Education Program and 130 independent candidates registered to take the exam under the 2006 program. At exactly 2:30 p.m., the candidates simultaneously started taking the Math exam in the form of multiple choice, with a test time of 90 minutes.

The exam structure has many innovations and is clearly classified.

This year's Math exam consists of 22 questions, divided into three parts: 12 multiple choice questions; 4 true/false questions (each question has 4 answers); 6 short answer questions. Notably, the true/false test has a new scoring method: candidates who choose one correct answer in a question get 0.1 point; two answers get 0.25 points; three answers get 0.5 points and must get all four answers correct to get 1 full point. Compared to previous years, this is a new point that helps increase differentiation between groups of learners, avoiding the situation of rote learning or random selection but still achieving high scores.

According to some math teachers at Bien Hoa High School for the Gifted, the exam closely follows the 12th grade curriculum, following the 2018 general education program. About 60-70% of the questions are at the level of recognition and understanding, suitable for graduation. The application and high-level application questions account for a moderate proportion, concentrated at the end of the exam, helping to classify candidates in university admission. The exam is not riddled but has a slight open element, encouraging logical thinking and flexible application.

The exam has a reasonable structure, tests comprehensive knowledge, especially focuses on reasoning and thinking skills, not just mechanical test-taking skills. The innovation in calculating the right/wrong score is also a step in line with the modern exam trend.

Math is considered the most stressful subject in this exam. Therefore, many students are worried and prepare carefully for the exam. At the exam site of A Phu Ly High School, candidate Do Duc Hai (grade 12A3) shared: I have focused a lot on reviewing for this exam, because this is the subject I will take for graduation and university entrance. However, I find the Math exam really difficult compared to my ability. The short answer questions require solid thinking, if you don't read carefully, it will be easy to make mistakes. I think it will be difficult to get a high score.

As for candidate Ha Hai Dang, a student at Phu Ly A High School, he said: The questions in the true/false answer section were really hard to get points. Many students were very sad when they couldn't do this section. Compared to the sample test we had reviewed, today's test was really tough!

According to many math teachers in schools in the province, although the exam questions are still within the curriculum, the way the questions are asked and the difficulty level is distributed makes students have to have a solid knowledge base to be able to complete the exam. This is also a sign that the exam is aiming to classify candidates more clearly, serving both purposes: graduation and university admission.

There were 31 absentees during the exam. No candidates or invigilators violated exam regulations. Tomorrow (June 27), 12th graders who registered for the 2018 General Education Program will take an optional exam in the morning. Candidates who registered for the 2006 General Education Program will take a Foreign Language exam in the morning and an optional exam in the afternoon.
