Given the complex developments of the epidemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared it an international emergency and raised the risk level in the Democratic Republic of Congo to "very high".
According to information from the Africa CDC, in addition to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, which have reported cases of Ebola virus infection, 10 other countries in the region are at high risk: Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Zambia.
However, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that the actual scale of the outbreak could be "much larger."
Ebola is a dangerous infectious disease. The initial symptoms of Ebola often resemble those of the flu. Later, more severe symptoms appear, along with internal and external bleeding, which is considered a characteristic and dangerous sign. The disease has a high mortality rate, averaging around 50%.
