| Many Galaxy devices may miss out on One UI 8. |
After rolling out One UI 7 to a range of devices, Samsung seems ready for the next update, One UI 8, expected to be based on Android 16. While eagerly awaiting the new improvements, the SamFan community is also wondering which devices will have to say "goodbye" to this major update.
Although Samsung hasn't released an official list, based on the company's software update policy (typically 3 years of operating system upgrades for mid-range devices and 4 years for high-end devices), tech enthusiasts have been able to outline a list of devices that are highly likely to be discontinued on One UI 7.
This means that users of these models will no longer receive major feature and interface updates from Samsung, although security patches may still be provided for a certain period of time.
According to predictions, the following Galaxy devices, although already receiving One UI 7, may not be included in the list of devices to be updated to One UI 8:
- Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra
- Galaxy Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3
- Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022 version)
- Galaxy Tab Active 4 Pro
- Galaxy A14 (including the 5G version)
- Galaxy M33
- Galaxy M14 (including the 5G version)
- Galaxy F14 5G
Of course, Samsung could still spring a surprise with a "mercy" update, but history has shown that when a device reaches its policy support limit, that's usually the final stop for major operating system upgrades.
According to recent reports, the One UI 8 beta testing program could launch as early as May, with the stable version expected to officially launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 in the second half of 2025, possibly around July or August, after Google releases Android 16 in June 2025.
If you own one of the devices mentioned above and want to experience the latest features of Android 16 and the One UI 8 update, it might be time to start considering upgrading to a newer model in the near future.
