After rolling out One UI 7 to a wide range of devices, Samsung seems to be ready for the next update called One UI 8, expected to be based on Android 16. While eagerly awaiting the new improvements, the SamFan community is also wondering which devices will have to "say goodbye" to this major update.

Although Samsung has not released an official list, based on the company's software update policy (usually 3 years of operating system upgrades for mid-range devices and 4 years for high-end devices), the technology community has been able to outline a list of devices that are likely to stop at One UI 7.

This means that users of these models will no longer receive major feature and interface updates from Samsung, although security patches may still be provided for a certain period of time.

It is expected that the following Galaxy devices, although they have received One UI 7, may not be on the list of devices that will be updated to One UI 8:

  • Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3
  • Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022 version)
  • Galaxy Tab Active 4 Pro
  • Galaxy A14 (including 5G version)
  • Galaxy M33
  • Galaxy M14 (including 5G version)
  • Galaxy F14 5G

Of course, Samsung could still surprise with a “graceful” update, but history has shown that when a device reaches its policy support limit, that's usually the last stop for major OS upgrades.

According to recent reports, the One UI 8 beta testing program may start as early as this May, the stable version is expected to be officially launched with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 duo in the second half of 2025, possibly around July or August, after Google releases Android 16 in June 2025.

If you own one of the above devices and want to experience the latest features of Android 16 and the One UI 8 update, it might be time to start considering upgrading to a newer model in the near future.
