As the 15th day of the 7th lunar month approaches, according to observations by reporters from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, vegetarian food items have been displayed and sold in several local markets and supermarkets, attracting consumers and leading to a significant increase in sales compared to normal days. The atmosphere in the vegetarian food market has become bustling, with buyers and sellers crowding the streets.
The food market during the full moon of the seventh lunar month is abundant, with stable prices. However, vegetarian food, vegetables, and fruits see a slight price increase compared to normal days.

Surveys conducted at several local markets such as Hang Be Market, Hom Market, Mo Market, Dong Xa Market, Nghia Tan Market, etc., show that many types of fruit have increased in price by 5,000 - 10,000 VND/kg.
The price of fresh flowers has skyrocketed, but demand remains strong. Specifically, the price of roses has increased from 5,000 - 7,000 VND/flower, lilies from 15,000 - 25,000 VND/flower, chrysanthemums from 5,000 - 6,000 VND/flower, and gladioli from 12,000 - 16,000 VND/flower...
Pork prices are currently ranging from 130,000 to 150,000 VND/kg depending on the type. Beef prices are between 220,000 and 280,000 VND/kg; rooster prices are between 130,000 and 140,000 VND/kg, while hen prices are lower, around 100,000-110,000 VND/kg...
During this period, the prices of fresh seafood also increased compared to normal days. Tiger prawns ranged from 250,000 to 400,000 VND/kg, squid from 150,000 to 250,000 VND/kg, baby octopus from 150,000 to 160,000 VND/kg, and sturgeon from 330,000 VND/kg;
Not only are fruits and fresh produce prices rising, but the prices of leafy green vegetables are also remaining high.

Cabbage 20,000 - 22,000 VND/kg, broccoli 18,000 - 20,000 VND/head, carrots 12,000 VND/kg, bok choy 14,000 - 16,000 VND/kg, cucumbers 18,000 VND/kg, tomatoes 18,000 - 20,000 VND/kg, water spinach 13,000 VND/bundle, jute mallow 9,000 VND/bundle…
The reason for the high price of green vegetables is not only due to the impact of the full moon festival but also due to objective factors such as the heavy rain in recent days, which has caused a sharp decrease in the supply of vegetables.
Ms. Le Thi Thu Thuy (Cau Giay, Hanoi ) said: “ I took advantage of going to the market early to offer prayers for the full moon festival. Waiting until the main ceremony to shop will be more crowded, making it harder to choose what I want. But currently, the prices of various offerings have already shown signs of increasing compared to yesterday .”
In addition, the market for vegetarian food for the Mid-Autumn Festival (the 15th day of the 7th lunar month) on online platforms has become bustling, with vegetarian food vendors making a fortune.
People can easily shop online for everything from groceries to prepare themselves to complete vegetarian feasts with a variety of dishes at prices suitable for every need.
Recognizing this demand, many restaurants, hotels, and online businesses started taking orders from customers very early in the morning.

Ms. Ngo Thu Trang (Dong Da District, Hanoi), who runs an online business selling vegetarian food, said that the prices of vegetarian feast sets are quite diverse. Prices range from 199,000 to 600,000 VND per set. There are also higher-priced sets depending on the number of dishes and ingredients requested by the customer, potentially costing over a million VND per set.
The current trend is that customers prefer vegetarian feasts made with natural ingredients like lotus, various types of mushrooms, and vegetables, rather than processed vegetarian food.
Vegetarian products are widely available, with hundreds of varieties ranging from dried foods, frozen products, canned goods to spices and sauces.
Vegetarian seasoning powder costs 4,000 – 6,000 VND/packet, vegetarian ribs cost 80,000 VND/kg, and various dried mushrooms cost 130,000 – 160,000 VND/kg. The prices of vegetarian food items such as sliced beef, chicken, sausages, roasted suckling pig, etc., have all increased by 10,000 – 20,000 VND/box.
These days, consumers only need to type the phrase "vegetarian food" on social media and it's easy to find images of vegetarian sausages, vegetarian patties, vegetarian tofu skin, vegetarian imitation chicken or pork... All are offered at various price points to meet the tastes of all customers.
According to our research, rising food prices have led to price increases for vegetarian products as well. However, current purchasing power shows no signs of decreasing, and many stores have had to import more products to meet customer demand.
As can be seen, the demand for food increases significantly during the full moon days of the seventh lunar month. Most families take advantage of this time to organize meals together, creating opportunities for family bonding and showing respect to their ancestors.
However, many foods are of unknown origin, their quality has not been declared, or they may not even meet food safety and hygiene standards. Consumers need to be cautious with frozen foods of unknown origin to avoid negative consequences.
The market also offers many vegetarian food products imported from the US, Japan, South Korea, etc., at prices three to four times higher than domestically produced goods.
However, what is worrying is that many of these products lack labels or information about product ingredients, usage instructions, manufacturing date, and expiration date.
The proliferation of vegetarian products on the market with unclear origins and questionable quality has raised consumer concerns about food safety.
Discussing this issue, Professor Nguyen Duy Thinh from the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology advised that when choosing vegetarian, dried, or ready-to-eat foods, consumers should choose reputable brands with food safety and hygiene certificates and clear origins.
Avoid buying moldy food, bleached food, or brightly colored processed products to prevent health problems.
Given the diverse range of vegetarian food options on the market, consumers need a thorough understanding to choose safe and high-quality vegetarian food for themselves and their families.
