Strong commitment to sustainable development

Mr. Karsten Hartmann, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Bosch Vietnam, shared: “Our strong commitment to sustainable development has driven Bosch Vietnam to implement several innovative initiatives recently. Specifically, we have promoted the application of renewable energy, invested in advanced technologies to minimize waste and CO2 emissions; and actively collaborated with local partners in implementing large-scale environmental protection campaigns.”

Bosch Vietnam has been continuously implementing innovative environmental management projects, such as the inauguration of a modern 1,540 kWp solar power system at the Bosch factory. This system will generate approximately 2,300 MWh of clean energy annually, reducing 1,630 tons of CO2 emissions – equivalent to planting about 30,000 trees annually. In addition, the €900,000 investment in an advanced wastewater recycling system demonstrates Bosch's commitment to water conservation.

Since 2020, the Bosch Group, with over 400 subsidiaries worldwide, has achieved full carbon neutrality (ranges 1 and 2). To achieve this goal, the Group has applied four main pillars: improving energy efficiency, self-generating energy from renewable sources (new clean energy), purchasing electricity from renewable sources (green electricity), and finally, offsetting remaining CO2 emissions with carbon credits. Ranges 1, 2, and 3 have been used according to the company's Greenhouse Gas Accounting and Reporting Standards.

According to Bosch Vietnam, in recent years, the Bosch factory has proactively coordinated with partners and local authorities to organize reforestation campaigns in Cat Tien National Park and Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve. This reforestation program has also received enthusiastic participation from Bosch Vietnam's associates from all Bosch branches and subsidiaries nationwide.

In 2022-2023 alone, Bosch Vietnam employees successfully planted over 1,200 trees, greening nearly 3 hectares of forest. To ensure the sustainability of the campaign and its long-term positive impact on the natural environment, local partners will monitor the forest after planting and provide annual reports on the survival rate of the trees, ensuring that over 80% survive, guaranteeing the area will develop into a thriving forest in the future.

Brendan Sunderland, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Bosch Vietnam, emphasized: “At Bosch, we believe that economic growth and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. Being recognized in the CSI 2024 program further reinforces our commitment to promoting sustainable practices in manufacturing in Vietnam. Alongside this significant milestone, we will continue to focus on our mission of developing innovative solutions to improve quality of life while protecting the environment.”

Promoting the exploitation of renewable energy

From June 2025, Schaeffler Vietnam, a manufacturer of industrial bearings, put into operation a large-scale solar power system at its production plant in Dong Nai, marking a significant milestone in the Group's sustainable development roadmap and global emission reduction strategy. The project, implemented by Schaeffler, aims to meet the climate change targets of the Paris Agreement, affirming its commitment to applying advanced technologies to promote decarbonization and enhance sustainability in its manufacturing operations in Vietnam.

Schaeffler's solar power system spans over 10,000 m², boasting an installed capacity of 2.12 MWp, capable of generating nearly 2,714 MWh of electricity annually. The transition to renewable energy has helped Schaeffler reduce its CO2 emissions by 1,840 tons per year; this large-scale rooftop solar system offers a double benefit. Firstly, it helps the factory reduce its reliance on fossil fuels, thereby cutting greenhouse gas emissions. Secondly, with a stable supply of renewable electricity, the system contributes to the long-term operational efficiency of Schaeffler.

According to Schaeffler Vietnam, energy-saving initiatives such as solar power systems are crucial to sustainable development, which is one of the four pillars of the Group's strategy. Through proactively producing electricity from renewable energy, Schaeffler continues to affirm its commitment to realizing the goals of the Paris Agreement on climate change, moving towards the common goal of limiting the increase in global average temperature to 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels.

As part of its Energy Efficiency Program (EEP), Schaeffler has implemented several groundbreaking initiatives for its manufacturing plant in Vietnam. Since 2021, Schaeffler has installed solar-powered lighting, variable frequency drives for pumps, an automatic light-off system to reduce lighting in unnecessary areas, optimized the cooling system for production machinery, optimized the air conditioning system in the canteen area, reduced insulation, and replaced cleaning chemicals in the heat treatment furnace area. These solutions have helped the plant save approximately 550 MWh of electricity per year.

In addition to improvements in plant operations, Schaeffler is scaling up its carbon emission reduction efforts throughout its entire supply chain. The company has implemented specific emission reduction measures through its business partners and prioritized the use of renewable energy, enabling Schaeffler Vietnam to achieve Renewable Energy Certification (REC). These initiatives by Schaeffler Vietnam align with Vietnam's direction towards achieving Net Zero by 2050.

Mr. Zhang Ying, Director of Schaeffler Plant, shared: “We are committed to aligning our operations with Vietnam’s goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050; investments in renewable energy, including the solar power system at our Dong Nai plant, are part of our strategy to achieve climate neutrality and build a more sustainable value chain. These efforts aim to bring long-term benefits to the community, the environment, and future generations.”
