On January 2nd, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan, Director of the Department of Culture , Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, stated that during the New Year's Day holiday in 2024 (December 30, 2023 - January 1, 2024), the total number of tourists and visitors in the area is estimated at approximately 110,000.

The number of tourists staying overnight was estimated at around 48,000, including approximately 1,300 international visitors. The average occupancy rate of accommodation establishments reached about 85%. Total tourism revenue was estimated at 133 billion VND.

During the 2024 New Year's Day celebrations, Can Tho City solemnly organized activities as part of a series of events commemorating the 20th anniversary of Can Tho City's establishment as a centrally-governed city. Notable examples included the "Celebrating the Year of the Dragon 2024" artistic light display; the "Miss Tay Do 2023" beauty contest; the "Beautiful Can Tho Tourism Photos 2023" art photography contest; and the "Traditional Music Moonlight" program...

In particular, large-scale events organized during the 2023 New Year's holiday included: the 20th anniversary celebration of the establishment of Can Tho City as a centrally-governed city (January 1, 2004 - January 1, 2024) and the special art program "The Beauty of Tay Do" to welcome the new year 2024; the 6th Can Tho Tourism Festival - Lantern Night in Ninh Kieu, 2023... with many unique and attractive activities, including an artistic float parade, art programs, drone light shows, and high-altitude fireworks displays.

Many tourist areas and attractions attract large numbers of visitors for sightseeing, recreation, and experiences, such as: Phi Yen Tourist Area, Mekong Silt, My Khanh Tourist Village, Con Son Island, Cai Rang Floating Market… Historical and cultural sites such as: Hung King Temple, Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery, Binh Thuy Ancient House, Binh Thuy Communal House... attract many visitors during the holiday.

According to Mr. Tuan, during the 2024 New Year's holiday, the Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested tourism businesses in the area to arrange staff on duty, improve the quality of service for tourists; strictly comply with legal regulations in business, sell at the listed prices; tourist docks should be renovated to ensure aesthetic appeal for tourists; boat owners and drivers should improve their civilized behavior in tourism, take tourists on tours according to schedule and time, and ensure good service for tourists.
