Moments of peaceful relaxation
A day in Truong Sa begins very early. As soon as the sun rises over the sea, the soldiers on the island begin their familiar routine: training, guard duty, patrolling, tending to the greenery, increasing production, maintaining weapons and technical equipment... Even so, they always have moments of peaceful quiet for their spiritual lives. In the afternoon after work or during evening gatherings, officers and soldiers gather to read books and newspapers, listen to the radio, and watch television. Newspapers, including Khanh Hoa Newspaper, have become an indispensable source of spiritual nourishment. Not only do they keep up with the news, but reading newspapers is also a way for each soldier on the island to better feel the pulse of the mainland, to learn about the developments in their homeland and province, and to better understand the sentiments sent from the home front.

On an afternoon on Song Tu Tay Island, a gentle sea breeze rustled through the cool, green canopy of the Terminalia catappa trees. Under the shade of the trees, a few young soldiers sat at a stone table, passing around newspapers that had just arrived, reading and discussing the information. Sergeant Le Hoang Tuan (from Dong Nai province) shared: “On this remote island, we are always excited when new newspapers arrive. Reading them helps me learn more about the socio -economic situation of the province and the country. In particular, articles about Truong Sa or about the soldiers on the islands make us feel very close and proud.”
Newspaper stories sometimes become topics of discussion during group activities. From news reports about rural development, new construction projects on the mainland, or articles about good people and good deeds, the soldiers have many more stories to share with each other. Many soldiers carefully read each article, keeping the pages with good content to reread or share with their comrades.

On the islands of Nam Yet and Sinh Ton, the libraries are neatly organized with a wide variety of books, newspapers, and magazines. Besides military , history, and literature books, the latest newspapers are always placed in convenient locations for officers and soldiers to read. Lieutenant Tran Minh Hieu (from Ninh Hoa ward), stationed on Nam Yet island, said: “We usually read newspapers in the evening or after our afternoon break. Besides general news, we are interested in articles about the province's development, especially programs related to the marine economy, tourism, and rural development… Reading newspapers helps us understand more about the locality where we are stationed.” Corporal Huynh Quoc Thinh (from Cam Ranh ward), stationed on Sinh Ton island, shared: “Reading newspapers not only helps me stay updated on the news but also gives me a feeling of closeness to the mainland. Articles about the lives of the people and localities in the province give me more motivation to complete my duties well.”
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huy Tuong, Commander of Sinh Ton Island, stated: “Updating information for officers and soldiers on the island is always a priority for our unit. Currently, officers and soldiers access information through various channels such as television, the military information system, and newspapers and magazines sent from the mainland. Among these, Khanh Hoa Newspaper is an important source of information for us to monitor the socio-economic development of the province as well as activities related to Truong Sa. Reading newspapers not only helps officers and soldiers stay updated but also contributes to improving their spiritual lives and fostering a sense of connection between the remote island and the mainland.”
In recent years, Khanh Hoa Newspaper has continuously innovated its content and format, promptly reflecting the political, economic, and social events of the province and the country. Besides the print version, the electronic version is also constantly updated, making it easy for readers to follow the information. In particular, many articles about the sea, islands, and the officers and soldiers serving in Truong Sa have contributed to spreading the image of the soldiers serving in the sea and islands to readers inside and outside the province.
