In the 2026 film adaptation, the story of Emily Brontë's classic novel is retold with a fresh, passionate, and bolder spirit, while still retaining the tragic essence of the original work.

The film revolves around the intense love affair between Catherine Earnshaw (played by Margot Robbie) and Heathcliff (played by Jacob Elordi), the adopted son of the Earnshaw family. Their love blossoms amidst the secluded landscape of the West Yorkshire estate, where idyllic beauty is often juxtaposed with a gloomy Gothic atmosphere. However, in the whirlwind of passion, desire, and obsession, this forbidden love gradually degenerates, becoming a destructive obsession that haunts not only the two individuals but also generations to come.
Initial images released by Warner Bros. (WB) have revealed some of the film's main tone: romantic yet sensual scenes, bold metaphors about possessiveness and inner conflict. Under the direction of Emerald Fennell – who previously made a name for herself with "Promising Young Woman" and "Saltburn" – "Wuthering Heights" is expected to be a highly individual adaptation, delving into the dark corners of love and class prejudice in a turbulent society.
Besides the two main stars, the film also features young actor Owen Cooper as young Heathcliff, and Charlotte Mellington as young Catherine. Notably, two Vietnamese-American actors, Hong Chau and Vy Nguyen, also participate as Nelly Dean – a character who witnesses and recounts the entire cycle of love and hatred that torments generations.
With its talented cast, distinctive director, and classic literary material, "Wuthering Heights" promises to be one of the most anticipated films of early 2026 when it premieres in Vietnam on February 27th.
