Receiving and burying the remains of fallen soldiers after 54 years of searching and verifying their identities.

After 54 years of searching and verifying his identity, on the morning of April 15th, at the Cultural Center of Residential Area No. 22, Ngoc Thuy Ward (Long Bien District, Hanoi), the family, unit, and local authorities solemnly held a ceremony to receive and rebury the remains of martyr Nguyen Van Thuong at the local martyrs' cemetery.

The program was jointly organized by the Party Committee, People's Committee, Fatherland Front Committee, units of Ngoc Thuy ward, the people of Residential Group No. 22 of Ngoc Thuy ward, and the family of martyr Nguyen Van Thuong. Offering incense in remembrance of martyr Nguyen Van Thuong, Lieutenant General Tran Tan Hung, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs, stated: "Martyr Nguyen Van Thuong is one of the cases where the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs, in coordination with the family and the Engineering Command, has been involved in the search for the remains of martyrs, verifying information, from collecting DNA samples and conducting matching tests to providing 100% financial support for DNA testing. Supporting families of martyrs in conducting DNA testing and delivering accurate test results is one of the important tasks of our Association. After 15 years of operation, the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs has socialized the work of genetic testing and identity verification for hundreds of martyrs." In the eulogy commemorating the martyr, Hoang Van Luc, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Ngoc Thuy Ward (Long Bien District, Hanoi), stated: Martyr Nguyen Van Thuong was born in 1939 in Hai Hung (now Hung Yen Province), married in 1964, and had one daughter. In September 1965, Nguyen Van Thuong and his younger brother volunteered to enlist. He was assigned to the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Unit, Engineering Command, fighting on the Southern front. On October 1, 1971, he fought bravely and sacrificed his life in Kim Thuy Commune, Le Thuy District, Quang Binh Province. (Photo: Mai Hoa)

The only child of martyr Nguyen Van Thuong, Major Nguyen Thi Mien (dark shirt, standing in the front row) shared: “I have always longed to find my father's grave, but this is truly not an easy task. Words cannot express our family's gratitude for finding my father's remains after 54 years. We received support from the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs in conducting DNA testing to ensure scientific accuracy, and the Party Committee, local government, people, and unit organized a solemn and thoughtful ceremony to receive and bury my father's remains. Together with her future daughter-in-law, Major Nguyen Thi Mien (on the left) offered incense at the Monument to the Fallen Heroes of the Fatherland at Doc La Martyrs' Cemetery (Yen Vien, Gia Lam). She emotionally shared: "The ceremony to receive and bury the remains of my father, a fallen soldier, was held completely and was incredibly warm and meaningful. With the spirits of the fallen soldiers protecting us, my son and his future daughter-in-law have set their wedding date for the next few months. The presence of my future daughter-in-law on the day we welcomed their grandfather back to the martyrs' cemetery near our home further strengthened the warmth and bond within our family."
