After losing to Meng Chen (China) in the 2023 final, Lai Ly Huynh has achieved what Vietnamese chess fans have been waiting for.

The victory against Chinese chess prodigy Yin Sheng right in his opponent's "sacred ground" affirmed the class and strength of Vietnam's number one chess player.
After 18 editions, Lai Ly Huynh finally broke the dominance of the world's number one chess player - China - to make history for Vietnamese chess.
"I aspired to win the top spot at the World Chess Championship. Two years ago I didn't succeed. This year I won. But what's even more special is that I defeated a Chinese player on Chinese soil; it's incredibly prestigious and makes me extremely happy," Lai Ly Huynh shared upon his arrival at Tan Son Nhat Airport (Ho Chi Minh City) after winning the world championship.
After years of perseverance and effort in conquering challenging arenas, this victory affirms the character, intelligence, and courageous fighting spirit of Vietnam's number one chess player.

Winning the world championship was not only a testament to his talent, but also gave him the energy to confidently pursue bigger goals, including maintaining his title and continuing to inspire future generations.
Vietnam's number one chess player expressed: "The final match was very important; it was an opportunity to break the dominance of China, the world's number one chess nation. I succeeded. This championship is the result of years of hard work, and also includes a bit of luck. I don't think about failures but always hope and aspire to win the world championship, the greatest aspiration of a professional chess player."
For Huynh himself, this championship will certainly be a stepping stone for him to continue his long-term commitment to Chinese chess.
Besides establishing his position on the chessboard, he can also become a "guide" for the next generation by sharing his experience, igniting passion, and participating in training.

Winning on the world stage can be considered a well-deserved reward for Huynh's arduous journey.
But more importantly, it opens up a new future where he is not only a winner on the chessboard, but also a symbol of the will and aspiration for excellence in Vietnamese intellectual sports .
The world championship title is not the end point, but a great motivation for Huynh to continue his journey of proving his talent, not being satisfied with what he has achieved, and to continue striving and making even greater efforts to take Vietnamese chess further on the international stage.
The chess player born in 1990 affirmed: "I am not satisfied with my achievements; I need to strive for more. I must maintain my desire to win and claim titles. I have forgotten that I won the championship, and I think of myself as not having won it yet, so that I can start a new journey."
