Dong Nai accelerates the application of AI in medical examination and treatment.

DNVN - Amidst the strong digital transformation taking place in many fields, the health sector in Dong Nai is also gradually accelerating the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical examination and treatment.

The application of AI not only contributes to improving the quality of healthcare services and shortening diagnostic times, but also effectively supports medical staff in the treatment process, aiming towards building a smart, modern healthcare system that is patient-centered.

Since November 2025, Thong Nhat General Hospital has implemented AI in colposcopy through the Dr. CerviCare system, considered a breakthrough solution in cervical cancer screening. Through more than 200 cases screened using AI technology, the rate of abnormality detection ranges from 3-5%. Patients with suspected symptoms are advised to undergo more advanced procedures to confirm the diagnosis and receive timely intervention.

CerviCare AI is a TeleCervicography solution system, comprising the Dr. Cervicam C20 smart device, the TeleCervico network platform, and a network of expert evaluators. This system is trained on a large database of over 100,000 cervical images, including both normal and abnormal images.

According to clinical trial results from the Korea Food and Drug Administration, CerviCare AI can detect early-stage cervical cancer with up to 98% accuracy when combined with a Pap smear test. The accuracy in detecting other abnormalities reaches approximately 95%, while image analysis takes only about 5 minutes.

Not only in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, AI is also proving remarkably effective at the Diagnostic Imaging Department of Thong Nhat General Hospital. Currently, the department has 5 doctors directly working in the specialized field and 4 doctors participating in practice, performing an average of 300-350 X-ray scans, 80-100 CT scans, and 40-50 MRI scans daily. With a large workload and limited personnel, overload is a frequent occurrence, leading to extended waiting times for patient results, especially for X-ray scans, which can take around 15-20 minutes.

However, since the implementation of AI-assisted diagnostic imaging systems, the time to receive results has been significantly shortened, to only about 7-10 minutes per X-ray. Beyond saving time, AI also helps doctors detect small and very small lesions that are easily missed by the naked eye, thereby improving diagnostic accuracy and the effectiveness of disease screening for patients.

It is evident that, when properly exploited and utilized, artificial intelligence is gradually becoming a powerful "assistant" to the medical team. The application of AI in diagnosis and treatment not only reduces the workload for doctors and shortens waiting times but also brings practical benefits to patients, contributing to improved healthcare quality and promoting the development of a smart and sustainable healthcare system in the new era.
