Smartphones are valuable assets to many people. There are several ways to protect them, such as applying screen protectors, using phone cases, or purchasing insurance packages. However, users often overlook the storage location, an equally important factor in effectively protecting their device.

According to BGR , storage habits and locations not only affect the lifespan of the device but also the health of the user. Besides protecting it from physical damage due to water or impact, environmental factors should also be considered.

First, avoid placing (or charging) your phone near heat sources. Many household appliances, items, and surfaces around the house can generate significant heat. Some common heat sources to avoid include ovens, microwaves, and even TVs.

Some surfaces may seem safe but can easily accumulate heat under specific circumstances. For example, users often leave their devices under pillows or covered with blankets while charging overnight. Besides the risk of damage from overheating, this habit also poses a fire hazard.

In general, the phone should be placed in a well-ventilated area for good air circulation while charging, and should not be covered by other objects.

Next, the interior of a car can heat up very quickly, especially on sunny days. That's why you shouldn't store your phone or any electronic devices inside your car, even when parked in the shade.

Exposure to excessively high temperatures will affect internal components, causing the machine to operate less stably. Additionally, BGR cites several studies showing that cars act like greenhouses in the summer, with the heat-trapping effect causing the temperature inside the vehicle to rise.

Because temperatures fluctuate constantly throughout the day, leaving your phone in a car for hours can be risky, even if the initial temperature isn't too hot. Additionally, leaving valuables in the car increases the risk of theft.

Some locations also pose risks, even for short-term storage, including airport security check trays. According to BGR , leaving phones out of sight in security trays increases the risk of theft. Users can also easily forget their phones while rushing to gather their belongings.

Experts suggest keeping your phone and other valuables in a zippered compartment of your handbag or jacket. Carefully check your belongings immediately after passing through security. This habit helps reduce the risk of unnecessary loss.

Finally, keeping your phone in your pants pocket for extended periods also increases the risk of damage. The device is constantly exposed to body temperature, which can easily cause overheating.

Constantly keeping your phone in your pocket exposes your body to radio waves, which can affect your health. Although there are no studies or evidence yet on the harmful effects of radio waves from phones, users should still limit direct exposure to the device in this way.
