The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just released a handbook on the use of biofuels, providing information on the roadmap for deploying E10 gasoline, its compatibility with various engine types, usage precautions, and recommendations for the public.
According to this document, most popular motorcycle manufacturers on the market, such as Honda, Toyota, Ford, Yamaha, and many other motorcycle manufacturers, have recommended allowing the use of ethanol-containing fuel (biofuel) at appropriate levels.
However, the Ministry of Industry and Trade notes that some vehicles should exercise caution when switching to E10 gasoline. This group includes vehicles manufactured before 2000, vehicles using older carburetors, vehicles that have been in operation for many years without having their fuel systems inspected, as well as restored or collectible vehicles.
For these vehicles, users should inspect and maintain the fuel system before use, including the fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel lines, carburetor, and fuel injectors. Worn-out parts should be replaced if necessary.
The handbook also addresses some frequently asked questions related to biofuels. Regarding the phenomenon of reduced engine power, the Ministry of Industry and Trade stated that this situation may occur, but the difference in power output is very small. E10 gasoline has a lower calorific value of about 3.4% compared to conventional mineral gasoline, but the combustion process is more complete, helping to reduce hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions by about 20-30%.
Regarding concerns about fuel consumption, the regulatory agency acknowledges that some cases may show higher consumption levels. However, the increase is insignificant under normal operating conditions.
Another issue mentioned is the moisture absorption capacity of E10 gasoline. This phenomenon can occur when water enters the fuel tank, the tank cap is not tightly sealed, or the vehicle is submerged in water. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, separation only occurs when the amount of accumulated water exceeds the permissible dissolution threshold.
To minimize risks, people are advised not to leave their vehicles idle for extended periods, to start them regularly, to avoid submerging them in water, and to store them in dry, well-ventilated places. If a vehicle is not used for a long time, owners should change the fuel, check for leaks, and replace the fuel filter on schedule before resuming operation.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade also advises people not to blend biofuels themselves. Switching between fuel types such as E5, E10, or RON95 must follow the vehicle manufacturer's instructions. At the same time, consumers should choose reputable retailers and be cautious about unverified information on social media.
