Following the 10th grade Literature exam on the morning of June 1st, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training reported that 603 candidates were absent citywide. Prior to that, on June 31st, the Department also reported approximately 600 candidates (equivalent to nearly 0.4%) who did not complete the registration procedures for the 10th grade exam.
In addition to statistics on absent candidates, the Department of Education and Training also stated that during the first exam session this year, they did not record any candidates violating the regulations.
The entrance exam for 10th grade in public schools in Ho Chi Minh City for the 2026-2027 school year will take place over two days, June 1st and 2nd. Specifically, on June 1st, candidates will take the Literature exam in the morning and the Foreign Language exam in the afternoon. On June 2nd, candidates will take the Mathematics exam in the morning; in the afternoon, those applying for specialized classes will take their specialized subject exam.
The structure of this year's exam remains basically stable compared to 2025, with content mainly from the 8th and 9th grade curriculum, closely following the competency-based assessment orientation of the 2018 general education program.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, more than 151,000 students registered to take the entrance exam for 10th grade in public schools for the 2026-2027 school year. Of these, more than 11,110 registered for specialized schools and 1,794 chose the integrated English program. Compared to the total number of students graduating from junior high school, more than 17,000 students did not participate in this year's 10th grade entrance exam.
This year also marks the first time Ho Chi Minh City has organized entrance exams for 10th grade after the administrative reorganization. Most localities apply an entrance exam format. However, some schools, including Thanh An Secondary and High School (Thanh An commune), Vo Thi Sau High School (Con Dao Special Zone), and ethnic minority boarding schools, use a selection process based on eligibility criteria and specific regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
For candidates taking the entrance exam, each exam is graded on a 10-point scale, rounded to the nearest 0.25, and weighted with a coefficient of 1. The admission score is the sum of the scores of the three exam subjects plus any bonus or incentive points (if applicable). To be eligible for admission, candidates must participate in all three exams and not receive a score of 0 in any subject.
Each candidate can register for a maximum of three preferences for public high schools in order of priority. Once accepted into a preferred school, the candidate must enroll in that school and cannot change their choice.
Following the 10th grade exams, the grading process is expected to take place from June 4-9, while the review process is scheduled for the end of June.
