Booking.com's recently released Tourism and Sustainability Report 2026 reveals that Vietnamese people are increasingly interested in responsible tourism. Up to 96% of Vietnamese travelers stated that sustainability is a key priority in their trips. This trend is gradually translating into concrete actions.
Many people are choosing quiet, peaceful destinations, and as many as 55% of Vietnamese tourists surveyed expressed a desire to avoid contributing to overtourism, while 63% of those planning trips outside of peak season.
Notably, these shifts in traveler preferences are also clearly reflected in actual search data. According to the travel platform Agoda, this summer has seen a significant increase in interest in "emerging" destinations, rather than focusing on already familiar locations.

Leading the list of emerging domestic destinations is Ly Son Island ( Quang Ngai ), which recorded strong search growth compared to the same period last year.
In addition, Ninh Binh continues to attract tourists thanks to its combination of nature, heritage, and culture. Mai Chau is also a popular choice as a tranquil mountain resort. Meanwhile, Mang Den has emerged as a "slower version" of Da Lat, attracting visitors with its cool climate, pine forests, and close-to-nature atmosphere. Tay Ninh also appears on the list thanks to its advantages in spiritual and ecotourism.

The trend of shifting away from crowded destinations stems from the desire to seek different experiences, while also being influenced by climate change. According to a survey by Booking.com, up to 82% of Vietnamese travelers consider the risks of extreme weather when choosing travel time and location; 58% said they had canceled or changed plans in the past year due to heatwaves, storms, floods, or other unusual weather phenomena.
This shift shows that tourism is no longer simply a journey of discovery or relaxation. For many Vietnamese travelers, each trip is becoming a more conscious choice, aiming for a balance between personal experiences, the environment, and the local community.
