Travel slowly to connect more deeply.

Slow travel is not just a trend, but is becoming an ideal choice to help people recharge their energy and connect more deeply with themselves amidst the hustle and bustle of life, especially during the transition between the old and new year.

As the moss season approaches, tourists have the opportunity to "hunt for moss" at the famous Ba Khom rock beach.

The Slow Living Journey

Amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life, peaceful seaside towns, simple fishing villages, and friendly, generous people become havens for those who want to slow down and experience life in more layers of meaning than beautiful photographs. Slow travel is not just a way to travel, but also a way to remain in memory, in emotion, and in the journey of seeking a genuine connection with the world around you.

Around the end of December and beginning of January each year, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Thao (Dak Lak) plans a leisurely trip . Some years she goes with friends, other years with her small family, but the destination is usually a coastal fishing village or a community tourism village. This year, her family chose Binh Thanh fishing village (Lien Huong commune) as their stop for their annual leave, to slowly enjoy the delicate transition between winter and spring.

She chose a charming little homestay near the Seven-Colored Rock Beach, where she could leisurely enjoy the local life: waking up early to watch the sunrise, swimming in the sea, enjoying coffee at a roadside cafe, visiting villages and temples to learn about local culture and history. In particular, she loved going to the local market early in the morning, when the spring air began to permeate the air, feeling the simple yet bustling rhythm of life of the fishermen in La Gàn fishing village in the days leading up to the New Year. Her family fully immersed themselves in nature, walking barefoot on the pebbles and white sand, listening to the rhythm of the waves with the tide, and enjoying the slight chill of late winter and the warmth of the coming spring sunshine.

Just as the moss season was beginning, Ms. Thao's family had the opportunity to "hunt for moss" at Ba Khom rocky beach, a famous destination in the area, and also explore the pebble beach with its myriad colors in their own unique way. Ms. Thao shared: "There's no Wi-Fi here, only love to take home. The pebbles have hundreds, even thousands of different shades. Some people say I edited the colors to make it look more appealing, but everyone has their own perception of beauty; for me, it sparkles and feels very real." Especially noteworthy is that the rooms don't have TVs or electronic devices, so the children can freely experience traditional folk games like jump rope, hopscotch, hopscotch, playing in the sand, swimming, and flying kites – things that city children today rarely have the chance to experience.

Slow travel is a way to listen to the voice of the land and immerse yourself in the local culture.

New trends among young people

Just four days in Binh Thanh fishing village was like being "recharged." She spent time with her children pulling baskets and untangling nets with the fishermen every morning, then wandering through the village market to buy fresh seafood. In her free time, she strolled to visit Co Thach Pagoda, stopped by the Nam Hai Mausoleum, and listened to the locals proudly recount how their entire village had just participated in the filming of "Searching for Long Dien Huong." And that wasn't all; she also enjoyed many local specialties prepared by the homestay owner, from scad fish salad, fish cakes, seafood pancakes, various types of snails… to simple, flavorful, and delicious home-cooked meals.

Unlike rushed trips with packed schedules focused solely on checking in, more and more travelers are choosing "slow travel" to have deeper experiences. Beyond simply taking photos, they listen to the stories of the land, immerse themselves in the local culture, and enjoy traditional cuisine with appreciation and understanding. Recently, "slow travel" has become a popular choice for many young people as a way to "recharge" their energy, encouraging them to temporarily set aside the hustle and bustle of life to truly appreciate the beauty of each destination.

According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Khoa, a freelance tour guide from Phan Thiet ward, coastal fishing villages in Lam Dong province have many advantages for developing slow tourism. The transition period between winter and spring offers cool weather, gentle sunshine, and a slight chill in the early morning and evening, making it ideal for extended sightseeing and relaxation activities. Therefore, the slow tourism trend is gaining popularity among tourists, along with other forms such as ecotourism, wellness tourism, exploring local culture, and seasonal experiences like cloud hunting, moss hunting, and flower viewing. These are also the fastest-growing tourism trends over the past year.
